Hello Everyone!!! New Member here!!! Not Very Happy with Ford at the Moment.

I have a 2015 ST which I bought for my wife. The car has 17K miles on it and I have owned it for 17 months now. Well, the clutch has completely failed on the car and I am very disappointed as Ford has flat out denied my claim. My wife is 50 years old and has been driving cars with clutches for over 30 years with no issues. Now we have a car that I really want to like but Ford is not standing behind the product. There is no reason a clutch should fail at 17K miles even if it is a wear and tear item. If anyone is listening, PLEASE HELP.

Nope. Flat out denial. Case was escalated. This will be the last Ford I will ever buy.

Was it the dealer denying the claim? Or did the regional rep already say no aswell?

Like he said. It's a wear and tear item, like brake pads. You bought it used so chances are previous owner may have mistreated the clutch or just didn't know how to drive. I've heard of clutch being replaced though if you're persistent enough.

Your right. Clutch is wear and tear item however a clutch should not fail under normal circumstances at 17K miles. Clutches should be good for 60 to 120K miles. I took my 2004 WRX STI to Germany with me for 5 years and pounded the piss out of the car on the Autobahn and one loop around the Nurburgring with no issues on the stock clutch. This car is marketed as a Street legal Rally car and so is the ST but it failed under normal driving by my wife whom is 50 years old and has been driving a clutch for 30 years. So she knows how to drive a a clutch. I personally believe that the clutch was defective or installed incorrectly.

Regional rep backed up the dealer claim and denied out right.

did they say why they are denying the claim? was it worn evenly? have they shown you why they wont honor the warranty?

good luck fighting it. unless they take it apart and you're willing to pay for disassemble/reassembly to see what's really going on in there in the event it's not claimable, it's most likely going to be out of pocket.

The factory warranty booklet states that the only item not covered in the transmission is the clutch liner. It states nothing about the rest of the clutch not being covered under warranty. I am attaching some pictures of the failed clutch. 20160803_112825.jpg 20160803_112909.jpg

This looks to me as a sudden catastrophic failure not normal wear and tear.

Sorry friend, how much does dealer want for new clutch (parts and labor)? In this case, I would at least try to see if they'll give you a discounted rate, etc. They can be somewhat flexible in order to make a customer happy (depending on the service manager, regional service manager, etc.)

Car was purchased brand new, not used.
Just noticed that. I assumed because of the new member intro post that you bought used. But fight to the death. That's premature failure for sure. Unreal how that came apart like that. Problem is dealers will always blame the owner for failed clutches. It's easy and, unfortunately, owners usually are the cause. Not in this case but that often doesn't matter :(

$2,500 for a new clutch. $880 for the clutch and flywheel and $1,500 for labor. Seems extremely high to me. They did offer 20% off but that is still very high to me. I spent $70K at the dealership in the last two years and now they won't at least meet me half way?

I couldn't agree with you more. Besides all that they are trying to rape me on the cost of replacement. $2,500 is just plain silly.
