Donut, what donut, I built a 2" one piece turbo to IC hose pipe today:)

Killing time waiting for FedEx to show up with a few parts so I could build the 3" DP and start the 3" exhaust build got bored, dug into my old parts bin and found enough stuff to cut and weld a mandrel bend pipe to replace the multiple section factory pieces.

Any imperfections are just glare, it came out very nice. The line around the tube in front of the axle is a superbly done TIG weld I did not want to go over.



There is a hump rolled into the ends to prevent the hose from coming off under boost.

For now the inlet side is just slide up over the stock 1.5" rubber coupler, not driveable that way, I have a 1.5 - 2" reducing coupler on the way.

I plan to upgrade the turbo so would want this part later on so just made it now, I need a 1.5 to 2.0" silicone reducer to hook it up.

I have built complete turbo systems, manifold to exhaust tip, IC piping, etc so this was just for fun. It was more work that expected as it was in 5 sections and I match parts up really well then after welding each section smooth it out and prep for paint on the outside and deburr the inside so it flows really well for being multiple pieces.

I already had done the doughnut delete so I might sell that mod if anybody is interested, just removed donut and used a good hose, looks great, easy to install, now at least.

In my quest to save every oz I can, the doughnut delete did not save much, around 4 oz it seems, this added 2 oz back so just 2 oz lighter than stock but looks a hell of a lot better and flows better of course but not much to gain until I install a bigger turbo.

That tiny turbo outlet is the killer at this point. But I agree, it'll help with a larger turbo for sure

If I was going to keep the stock turbo I would spend a few hours porting it but it is just so small, I want a much wider torque curve and more HP up top but not nuts power, real world, do what I need, easy to drive power:)

If we want some serious power having the option of mounting a larger turbo on would be great. I think there's potentially a big market there.

Just waiting on ATP, still only 293 miles on the car, torn apart and doing a ton of fun mods like a bigger turbo:)

Thanks, it will do all I need and no cost except a bit of welding gas and electricty:)

Sorry, it would take far to long so I would have to charge to much.

ATP already has one for $129 with a port for the sensor removed from stock turbo when or if upgrading, I would get theirs if not able to build my own.

I have enough parts that I might make one 3" exhaust for somebody but most likely have to be local due to shipping costs and it depends on how mine goes for time.

293 miles on the car, 0 on the new wheels and tires:)

I drove the car once for 20 miles or so and then the next day put it in the trailer to bring home from the CA/NV border.

I have done this to brand new cars, and more than this, several times now:)

Still not driving the car, I have the interior out in the rear and back seats for work there, installing a bigger intercooler up front, finishing up moving the battery and window washer tank to the rear(smaller tank, not stock), building a downpipe and 3" exhaust and designing an intake with real cold air. And, pulling the transaxle to do a n "LSD" install, build a short shifter.....just built a driver side engine mount, considering building a RMM but might buy one.........lifelong DIY habit, I thought I would only do a few simple bolt ons, right:)

The doughnut, I misspelled it before, is the resonator on the stock turbo outlet pipe, supposed to give 10 HP on some cars when removed.

Simple method I already accomplished is to cut that section out and get a hose with the proper bend and size to replace it.

I did that and have the hose, the modified pipe and hose clamp listed for sale so that somebody can do this and not modify the pipe in case they need it in the future.

I decided to just make it simpler and be prepared for a bigger turbo.


ATP stated that for the stock turbo the stock pipe is all that is needed ,not sure if doughnut delete is part of that statement, the bigger pipe only needed for a bigger turbo.
