The new starting price of $24,425 means the Mustang is priced right in the middle of the Fiesta ST and Focus ST.

The wait is almost over for muscle car fans looking to get a hold of the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang. The car won't be arriving at Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] dealerships until the fall, but the order books are now open and pricing starts from just $24,425 including destination. That nets you a base 2015 Mustang fastback coupe equipped with a 3.7-liter V-6 and six-speed manual transmission.

Ford is yet to reveal pricing on the rest of the lineup but the figures should lie close to those of the outgoing 2014 model. For example, the 2015 Mustang's $24,425 starting price is just $1,090 more than the $23,335 sticker of the comparable 2014 model, despite the numerous styling and technology upgrades.

At launch, the 2015 Mustang comes with three available powerplants, each of which can be paired with a six-speed manual or paddle-shifted six-speed automatic. They include a 3.7-liter V-6 for the base Mustang, a mid-level 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder for a new Mustang EcoBoost model, and a 5.0-liter V-8 once again for the range-topping Mustang GT.

Ford still hasn't announced the final performance specs but promises that the V-6 will deliver more than 300 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, the EcoBoost four more than 305 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque, and the V-8 more than 420 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque.

Standard across the range is fully independent suspension at both ends; keyless entry and push-button start; the latest SYNC interface system with new AppLink technology; display screens in the instrument cluster and center console; a reversing camera; leather trim on the steering wheel; eight airbags; and high-intensity discharge headlights.

Optional extras include blind spot and cross traffic monitoring systems; adaptive cruise control with collision warning; a drive mode selector to adjust steering, throttle, traction and transmission settings; the Track Apps performance monitor; and, for the Mustang GT, the new electronic line lock and a launch control system. Many of these extras are expected to be bundled in new Premium and Performance packages, though Ford is yet to announce these.

Ford has confirmed, however, that the Mustang EcoBoost and Mustang GT models are also available with a 50 Years Appearance Package that adds special touches like a chrome-accented grille, “50 Years” rear badge and custom 19 alloy wheels similar to those found on the 2015 Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition.

Why would a small rwd sports type car hurt ST sales ?? People shopping a Mustang more than likely would wrinkle their nose at a 5 door hatchback. And people are so silly they think only a fwd/awd can get them around in the cold and snow. So the stang would be a sunshine car.. Well cept for those of us that buy them to drive them lol. Really looking forward to test drive the ecoboost model..

Its not in the same market per se and you are right about them being different cars but it targets the same demographics...now even more so with the 2.3L. I also want to test out the Ecoboost 4 when it arrives.

The only model of Mustang that's interesting to me is the Ecoboost, which will end up being a couple thousand dollars (at least) more than the FiST. It's also somewhat larger which doesn't help. I don't think I'd be tempted. A comparably priced Mustang would be the V6 which doesn't appeal at all.

Here's my 2-cents worth...I doubt there is much cross-over in the targeted customer group. There may be more interest in the Mustang among those that might cross-shop the Focus ST, but the price point and size differences with the FiST will be too great to "steal" FiST customers. Of course, those with the economic means could have both an ST and a Mustang. If the determining factor is solely price, than I'll bet the average transaction price for those Mustangs will $1,000's more than any of the ST's. Just remember my opinions here are worth no more than 2-cents!

Those with means may buy a 911 Turbo...but will still miss out on not buying our car...-2 cents

My 2 cents on the topic...

I wanted the ECO Boost Mustang, but as always, mustangs only fit 4 people and I have wifey and 3 kids. I need something that has 5 seatbelts "just in case". Most of the cars that only fit 4 I would want-F150 Harley HD (99-2004), Mustang, Camaro, Challenger...So I've always tried to have a DD that sat 5-EVO and ST. Once my oldest moves out, I'd really consider getting the ecoboost mustang, but she's only 13... :(

They're not targeted at the same enthusiasts. Even the Ecoboost Mustang is a very different car--a lot heavier, RWD coupe with a much higher insurance cost--than the Fiesta ST. The 2.3L Ecoboost is also unlikely to make anywhere near the same fuel economy as the Fiesta ST, which is another thing to consider. The idea of the Fiesta ST--a fun, quick, but ultimately frugal and practical hatch--is very, very different from the dedicated sports platform of the Mustang. Yes, independent rear suspension will make it appeal to a wider audience than just the former muscle car set, but we're talking about people who will cross-shop a premium, leather recaro performance pack Ecoboost Mustang against the new 2015 STi, BMW 328i, Genesis R-Spec, 370Z, etc. Not the Fiesta ST.

Apples to kiwi comparison. For one. I like mustangs, but since I only want 1 car at a time. I must get FWD or AWD only. Where I live, snow/ice is an issue for 3 months of the year. I'd rather have the best advantage in those conditions while still having fun for the other 9 months.

Hence Turbo FWD Fiesta ST!!!
