last night headed into work the tach and speedometer did a quick sweep and died out while i was going 60+ on the highway. wasn't reading speed rpm,
miles, pretty much the whole display went out and every light on the dash came on followed by a "Service Immediately faulty steering" on the touch display. didn't think anything of it car still drove normal but the display never went back to normal. got out of work started her up and everything's fine. the lady takes the car to class today and about 30 minutes in, around the same time i had issues, it does the same thing to her. again after she leaves school no issues. driving it home shes about four blocks from our house and at a stop light the whole car looses power and will not accelerate, however it did stay running. turned it off pushed it off the road and tried to restart it and it would start but no acceleration. about 20 minutes goes by and a cop pulls up etc, etc. she starts it again and fires right up and now it magically works fine again??? just took it in to the dealership and they said they'd look at it. since I'm 2 years away from 25, they gave us a terrible rental instead of something decent. a POS impala that looks like it's been through hell and back with bird shit and all. we were really looking forward to taking the st to cars and coffee this weekend, but on the bright side at least we were` given a car to use.

now what should we do in this situation. we didn't get the extended warranty or anything...is it unreasonable to ask for a different ST,extended warranty, or nothing at all? just feel like this is a bad omen to start off the first day owning the car and our whole point in not buying something used was reliability and we would know everything that's been done to the car from the get go. hate to loose confidence in this car already and don't want to worry about a BRAND NEW vehicle breaking down.

Hi roosey,

I can loop in your customer service manager, who'll work with your dealer for a resolution. Please send me a private message with your VIN, best daytime phone number, full name, and dealer name/location.

I wonder if there was a bad batch of late production Fiesta STs?

Seems a LOT of guys are having motor trouble within 300mi of new but ONLY in the past month or so.... @FordService I'd start looking at what production runs the cars suffering from major issues at low mileage came out of.

Knock on wood, my Fiesta ST has been great though my XM sub just expired, which is annoying.

It would be nice if the people posting this kind of stuff would include their build date. FYI: It's located on the sticker on the driver door frame.

Sorry about that. I would post the build date but the cars not in my possession at the moment. Once I go to the dealership tomorrow I'll get the info for everyone!

Wwow, that sucks. Keep us updated on what Ford has to say. I wouldn't go the route of demanding a new car just yet. Give them a chance to fix their mistke aand go from there. I'm hoping for the best for you..

That's a good idea. That's outside of my jurisdiction, though, and I wouldn't be able to provide that kind of info to you guys. The best way to have these kinds of things addressed and sent up the line is for customers with the concerns to head to their dealer for diagnosis. I'm here to help make that process smoother. :)

Okay, i'll send you a message! Thanks Meagan
I got it! :)

Besides my shifter cable coming off the bottom of the shifter under the console, mine has been perfect... Wait... Well... My passenger side black molding came off the side of the front windshield somewhere at sometime... But BESIDES THOSE, lol, its been really good. Oct/2013

build date is 05/14

alright, so i got the car back yesterday. They told me the battery terminal wasn't bolted down and came loose causing the electrical problems. i expressed my concerns with the sales manager and let him know I'm a little worried about what the future holds just because this experience with my first ford has been a little disappointing so far. He said, "well were just the middle man. So stuff like this does happen. everyone wants to complain to us, but we don't build the cars we just sell them.", which I understand it still just makes me a little uncomfortable. maybe I'm just a worrywart. I asked what my options were with the car which I pretty much don't have any at this point, unless the problem keeps coming back. He did give me two free oil changes which somewhat felt like a kick out the door, in lack of better words, considering some of the dealerships were offering free oil changes for up to 100k.

Have some faith. Ford does build good cars. Seems you just had a small issue that was an easy fix. Hope you continue to enjoy the st

I'd give it (the car) at least an opportunity to do well for you before losing faith in it. The dealer's response was disheartening, sure--"we're just the middle man"? Pfffft. But it does seem at least kinda possible that they've fixed it and you'll be golden. Chin up, my friend! Be positive! It'll work out--if nothing else, Meagan will go to bat for you if need be.

Actually Meagan, I fixed my personal car both times myself. I was at the drag strip. I'm actually a mechanic by trade. I checked the links on the trans and they were still very much intact and everything ran smooth there.

I got back in the car and peeled up the shifter boot area, and reached my hand in front of the shifter assembly and grabbed the cable pulled it back and snapped it back on again. I did this twice in a row. I think 5 runs after that , it was fine.

I also did this in 7miles to a fiesta ST I test drove before buying mine. I had to limp it back to the ford dealer stuck in 4th gear (which is what happens when the cable comes off ). I loved the car and didn't need more than 7miles. Not to mention, I wanted recaros, and this was a base $21,400 car. 4 days later, I drove 3.5 hours to buy a fully loaded one :)

So its not just my car :)
