Quietest aftermarket exhaust for FiST?

Hey guys -

Just curious if anyone has an aftermarket exhaust that isn't much louder than stock? I'm thinking along the lines of upgrading to Stage 3 parts with a COBB tune, but I really prefer a quiet exhaust. Is a catback even really necessary to run the Stage 3 COBB tune?

Before going catless, my Borla catback was fairly quiet. Heck, even with the offroad downpipe, it still isn't obnoxious and very livable as a daily driver.

My FSwerk CBE + de-cat 2JR DP combo is super quiet just cruising around town, no drone, very mellow

I've seen a lot of videos, and from what i can tell. The 2jr combo is really quiet. Any of the ones that have a resonator and muffler will be much quieter then another with just 1 of those

I was considering running stock catback + catted COBB DP but will probably run full Cobb turboback. I figure the 2.5" systems will be quieter than any 3" system, but from what I can tell the Cobb catback doesn't seem to be much louder than stock.

I'm Catless downpipe to stock catback and I feel it's perfect. Looks stock but sound louder and deeper than stock while still being refined with awrsome spool up sound. I like to think my fiesta is a sleeper with the stock look - full badges still intact

bigger diameter exhaust Will be quieter! the bigger you go the less velocity you will have, and the sound dissipates more before it reaches the tailpipe. i have a friend that does exhaust sound testing for companies that manufacture OEM replacement mufflers, and sometimes magnaflow. if you want to see how loud you can make it put 1 1/2" exhaust on it with a big 5" tip, and neighbors you didn't know you had will be complaining of the noise!

The full COBB turbo back is pretty quiet as well. Idling there's a slight note from inside but not much, from the outside you can tell there's an exhaust on the car but nothing crazy. WOT there's a note but again nothing crazy. It does like to pop and gurlge and even the odd bang when downshifting so if that's not your thing be forewarned

The stock exhaust sounds great imo. Quiet and plenty loud when on the gas. Best of all you've already paid for it. And you won't get any pops or what not.

The miltek fully resonated exhaust is very quiet, not really noticible at low revs, and when cruising about town, but a nice roar when you put your foot down. Oh and most importantly, there is no annoying drone at 70+mph!

Not sure if it's avaliable in the U.s?

Anybody know of a exhaust that kinda sounds like the abrath? As much as I hate to say it I would for my fiesta to sound like that.

Hello all, first post here. [wave]

Ghost - I love your idea! It's been sizzling in my brain along with a Cobb stage 2. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall seeing any impressive dyno #'s from aftermarket exhausts and I want my car to be as quiet as possible. I'm guessing we both figured that cat is probably one of the most restrictive parts of the after turbo piping and so best bang for the buck to go catless. QUESTION - are you driving around with the CEL / check engine light?

Best bang for buck is stage 1. I did run my down pipe on stage 1 without a CEL using a O2 defouler. I'm stage 3 e50 now so I removed the O2 defouler because my tune compensates for the mods fully. It's safe to run a cat less doe pipe stock or stage1 even with a cel.

Thanks, which DP did you use? Some have a disclaimer that they will cause CEL. I prefer to avoid that if possible.

Mine is very quiet, 3" DP with 5" 100 cell metal core cat, full 3" outlet to CBE, 3" inlet, 5" diameter resonator packed with SS so it does not burn out, fewer bends, less angle, than any after market system, 3" straight through oval Borla race muffler to a single oval tip. The freest flowing, least restrictive, system yet but it took many times the effort to make that expected. If I was sticking with a stock turbo and not going for much more power stock would be fine except the horrid DP.

If I do not sell my house soon I might mod the stock DP and exhaust and see what it will do, cut out the very bottle necked sections of the DP and weld in parts to make it far more open.....I bet on a stock turbo it will help a great deal but could be done to look stock, like the well ported manifold and modded turbo I now have;)

The combination of modded stock parts could be done to fool any inspector where that happens and make a great deal more power and have a better powerband.

I believe in using a cat unlike many, I care about how nasty the stuff coming out of the tailpipe is as it is additive and effects us all whether we choose to accept it or not.
