ST XTA Coil Over questions

I'm considering the ST-XTAs coilovers on my DD/occasional track car for the adjustable rebound and being able to be set at the near-stock ride height. Things I've read about the STs have been promising. But I'm concerned about the adjustable uniball top mounts. I've read that on some other coilover sets, the all-metal camber-plates can be clunky depending on temp changes as well as make for a somewhat harsher ride since there's no rubber or plastic to isolate harsher bumps.

Anyone have experience w/ adjustable camber plates in general, or the ST-XTAs in particular?

Could the XTAs use the stock, plastic top mounts? or the non-adjustable XA top mounts?

Thanks for any info you can share.

I have mine ST-XTA installed for 2 months. Very comfortable ride, no noise at all from pillow ball mount. i have mine set almost 2 click from stiffest . Combine with TB performance bars, works really good. The front lower brace is a must.

How long did yours take to arrive?
I won mine on Facebook months ago and they should have arrived last week.

Also can I get away with full-height full soft on these?

Do I REALLY have to cut out the goddamn shock towers like Mike Kojima did in this article?

Article features ST XTA Coilovers being installed in a Fiesta ST.

No you don't at all, but if you want to adjust camber using the top, you have to unbolt the units. You can always using bottom adjustment with bolts like others do.

I had some clunks for a couple of days after fitting but it hasn't happened since, had them for about 2 months.

Another question. Can the rebound be adjusted without uninstalling the struts if the strut tower tops are left intact? And how about adjusting the rear struts? Looks like they need to be at least unbolted from the top to be adjusted. Is that the case? Or can they be adjusted more easily than that?

Thanks again for the info.

Rebound is adjusted on top of the shock, the front is a little difficult to get your hand far enough back to get to it but it can be done.
For the rears we cut a tiny hole in the boot/trunk carpet directly above where the shock is to allow access. A 2mm Allen key makes it much easier to get to as the supplied knob/adjuster is very small.

So they should be able to bolt up without cutting out the tower, then, if I understand you correctly.

My XTA's finally turned up yesterday.

Hey BlueBomber. Be sure to let us know your opinion of their ride quality once they're installed.

I also have a question since you're involved w/ ModBargains. In their description of the coilovers they list a minimum drop in ride height of about 1.4". But on TireRack's site, they list a minimum drop of only .2-.4" Is there a difference between the version that ModBargains sells vs. TireRack's? I'd like to keep my ride height closer to stock. So, I'm hoping it's just a typo and I can keep the drop closer the .2-.4" TireRack listed.

Thanks!

It is very possible that the numbers have changed, as what was originally listed may reflect drop for a standard Fiesta instead of drop on an ST, there was a grip of confusion getting me these as apparently the part number has changed??? I'm still figuring it out but once I do I'll update the listing accordingly.
This is news to me as of this week, so I'm not sure yet.

So, how long did it take to get your XTAs, BlueBomber? If I order a set, I want to make sure I have them in time for my install appointment. Thanks again for all the info.

I won them on Facebook in a contest back in like... May.

First it had to go through Germany then get approval and then go through customs and then the part number changed... I don't think my time is reflective of a normal order because of the "promotional" nature of the item, and when you're getting $1300 coilovers shipped to you from Germany free of charge, well... you have to be a little more understanding about preposterously long ship times.

Well, I took the plunge and ordered the XTAs. The XTAs are made to order so they have a three to five week delivery time. Seeing as I have a road trip in four weeks, I hope they get them here closer to the three week mark. Fingers crossed.

oh boy... yeah... i uh...
would not bet on it

plan on them not arriving in time - instead, treat it as a pleasant surprise if they do show up.

This is how I've been treating a lot of these new product releases... lol don't bet on something coming out, but if it does, fantastic.

yeah. I'm afraid you're probably right, BlueBomber. Hopefully, they have things a bit more streamlined now.

So, did you get yours installed yet? What are your initial impressions?

I feel your pain bro. I just ordered KWs for my FiST and it should be 3 weeks till I see mine. For the quality of the parts though, the wait is worth it.
