I'm going to build a "custom" oil catch can, and I need to buy fittings. Can someone confirm the inner diameter of the OEM PCV hose? I saw one place that said 3/8" and another that said 5/8", 5/8" seems big (same size as a garden hose, lol). But I just want to be sure.

Also for your enjoyment, I'm going to be using the Home Depot air compressor filter (it's really nice, it has a copper filter similar to to expensive Mistumoto catch can).

I'll post pics of everything and do a write up.

Check out my build. I put together a oil catch can using a Mishimoto can and the OEM fittings. FYI, The ID is 5/8".

Heater hose looked cheap, but I don't think it's compatible with oil. Although, if everything works like it should, the hose shouldn't get oil in it :)

This is the filter I'm using:

First thing's first. The valve at the bottom, it sucks for this application. It only closes when it's under pressure (like it would be from an air compressor). I'm going to epoxy the valve so it can't leak, lots of guys on the Dodge SRT4 forums do this. Plus the catch can part screws off so it's not an issue. Filter was $22 at Home Depot, and it's black!

I'll probably mount mine the same as westcoaST

I did find some 90 degree 3/8" thread to 5/8" barb, so I don't have to use adapters like you did (I found polypropylene ones really cheap, they're resistant to oil and good for 150 PSI)

The OEM hose is a tight 5/8" Probably closer to a 15 mm diameter. If you want to go back to OEM, pick up an extra PCV hose from Rockauto. I boiled water and stuck the end of the Morimoto reinforced hose into the boiling water, then onto the OEM click on fitting. The Morimoto hose fitting was an exact match for the OEM hose that I used from the PCV valve to the oil catch can.

would be nice if ford hadnt used such a large hose for the PCV.
I bought this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008TT2P6G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 3/8 NPT to 5/8 barb, so I didn't have to use any adapters. I didn't find any of these in the store (home depot or lowes) so I amazoned them. Also worth noting, this is a pack of 10, which is 8 more than I'll need :)

I did find brass ones online as well, but the OEM connections are all plastic, so I can't imagine this will be an issue, and I wanted black for the extra stealth look. I'll also be removing all the stickers from the catch can.

my only issue is i bought the small can and it has 1/4" NPT so i had to buy a bunch of bits to get it up to 5/8" barb. i also painted the can with high heat paint to protect the bowl from engine bay heat.

update - I have my CC installed roughly and im not sure if the hose is up to the task as when the PCV is in Vacuum (not on the gas) the hose does tend to get flat.
i may just take a pic and show you.

Interesting. The hose I bought was for power steering fluid so hopefully it's stiffer and holds up.

Get some polyester braid clear PVC hose, or better yet, wire reinforced vacuum hose. Both of these will not collapse under vacuum. The first hose looks like it has string woven in the plastic hose, the second has a wire spiral inside the clear hose.

First is available at home depot, plumbing aisle, second on Amazon or Graingers.

Yes, and it has the advantage of being clear so you can see how well your catch can is working. It's the type of hose supplied wth the Mishimoto can I purchased. When I figured the cost of the hoses, adapters, and other stuff needed at home depot, I decided to go with the Mishimoto can for $85.00. Only other thing I purchased was a Fumoto oil drain so I could drain the can easier.
