Maybe I am just stupid and can't figure it out. Did I press some button somewhere on the dash or in the MyTouch screen? The hatchback won't open manually, or by remote. The vehicle doors will still lock and unlock, but not the hatch. What the hell gives?

Dunno....at the time. So, check this: After the blown fuse was replaced, I talked to the technician for about 20 minutes. He was VERY O.C.D. I like that in a Tech guy. He showed me some things that the shop/person who installed the amp and subwoofer in the trunk shouldn't have done. Mind you, none of it ended up having to do with the hatchback not working or blowing a fuse. Although, after I dropped the vehicle off, they called me and were 99% sure that it was affecting it and I would be paying $140 for the recon. They couldn't find anything connecting the two systems, but did manage to find some exposed wiring the stereo shop did under the driver side seat belt cover that runs from the floor to the roof between the front and rear driver side windows. Free fix, plus they gave me 5 extra fuses in case it happened again. If it did, the tech guy wanted to know very specific details as to what was going on just prior to the 'next' occurrence.

5 weeks of no problems. Come back from Lowe's with stuff in the hatchback (that I didn't manage to close all the way). The hatchback was shut like a side door that was still 'loose' but wouldn't open. Got home 5 minutes later and......nothing. Won't unlock. Check the fuse, blown again. Replace fuse, try again. Double click the trunk, exactly one second later I hear the fuse pop. Even after I close the hatchback all the way, since it wouldn't open using any method, all five extra fuses blown the same way. Take it back to Ford and get even bigger doom and gloom from the same guy who managed my service the first time (the rep, not the tech dude). From his point of view it was going to cost me all kinds of money to fix on a vehicle that I didn't even have 2,000 miles on yet. I told the tech guy the details of what happened and he got to work. By the next afternoon, I got a call from the rep saying my car was ready for pick up. I signed some papers that 'showed' charges upwards of $800. Luckily that was paperwork for them, not the one for me. Free of charge again. The wiring that comes from the inside of the roof, from the front of the car, and into the hatchback at the top had a kink in the specific wire inside the tubing that holds all the wires together. A manufacturer's defect. He changed out the length of the wire, good as new and off I went into the sunset. Take that Ford rep! Stereo interference my butt.

FMI: Why doesn't the hatchback on the Fiesta have a manual release from the inside? My wife's Mini doesn't either. I had some large items in the back at the time with the seats folded down that were the BIGGEST pain in the a-hole to get out through the side doors. Took me about 15 minutes to squeeze one of them out. I'm very lucky I didn't damage the doors. Most vehicles with a trunk have a release lever or button in the trunk so you can't get stuck in it. Why not these?
