~400 miles after installing AP, I received a P0014 check engine light.

Howdy,

So I flashed my new Fiesta at around 1100 mi. I did a oil change with OEM stuff @866mi. Come 15XX miles that are on it now, I received a P0014 code in the form of a check engine light. I made an appt with Ford, but then I uninstalled the AP and the light is gone.

Contacting Cobb, they said to remain stock until the light comes back on and I can take it into Ford.

Has anyone received this code? Any tips?

The coldest start it had was ~50*. Cali weather is

A quick Google search said:

A code P0014 refers to the VVT (variable valve timing) or VCT (variable camshaft timing) components and the car's PCM (powertrain control module, also called an ECM). That consists of a few different components but the P0014 DTC specifically refers to the camshaft (cam) timing. In this case, if the cam timing is above a set limit (over-advanced), the engine light will be illluminated and the code will be set. Bank 1 is the side of the engine containing cylinder #1. The "B" camshaft shall be either the "exhaust," "right," or "rear" camshaft. Left/Right and Front/Rear are determined as if viewed from the driver's seating position.

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks

The cam timing is different than the ignition timing.

OTS maps do not change VCT limits. There are cold and hot limits and an abundance of sanity checks. It's possible the new oil type has poor performance and is exceeding the bounds under certain scenarios. Does the code immediately come back if cleared at night and upon starting in the morning?

After I returned to stock the light has not come on. That was about 3 days ago. I will prob wait a few more days then flash to the OTS map again to see if this issue is reproducible when the AccessPort is installed.

Update here, sorry it took so long.

I received the same code one day in January after prob 2 months of nothing. I immediately un-married my AccessPort, crossed my fingers that the code would pop up. About 20 minutes later the code popped up, same as before. I was STOKED!!! haha

I made an appointment at Ford and the diagnosed the car (since the code was now saved in memory). Turned out to be the Variable Valve Timing Solenoid. They ordered that, and replaced it in ~2 hours.

3 weeks later, the code hasn't popped up again even after I re-installed the Access Port.
