This is in my build thread but I wanted to ensure more saw it so putting it here, chassis related though an electrical item.

Weight is the enemy in all things in performance, acceleration, braking, handling, this is a great mod for the money:)



3.9lb Li battery on the way, will install it on Saturday as will take but a few minutes to make an aluminum mount and the battery cable has been done for some time now.

Stock battery, mounts, etc.....39lbs, new battery and cable plus mount, 8lbs, that is a great deal of weight off the front of the car and then putting some in the rear helps get my car back in balance as without the rear seat is is a bit lite in the back.

This brand had a protection circuit to prevent it from becoming totally drained which would kill most Li batteries on the market, they claim they are the only ones with this so far. I was going to do a DIY but have many other things to get done and had the funds so just bought it as a great price, got a 10% military discount.

How long have you been running the EarthX? Any problems with the car electronics? Reason I ask is that we've tried Lithium batteries on other DI cars (Mazda DISI) and had some fueling missfires and a few other electronics-related problems. The injectors must have 100 VDC to open under combustion pressure and as such have an amplifier to boost the 12VDC battery VDC.

I was going to say the same thing Forzda did. I've run into some odd tuning issues with Li batteries in cars before. I stay away from them.

I run and always suggest the Hawker Genesis or Odyssey PC680 for light weight batteries. They are around 12-13lbs.

I ran the Odyssey PC680 back in the early 2000s in my old Focus, but only for a short time. So I have limited experience with them. What is your experience with their reliability in a climate such as Florida? Also, have you test fitted on in the stock battery tray of a FiST?

I just talked to an engineer there and then cancelled the order, he recommended the 48 model which is around $750 which I just do not want to spend on a battery right now, it weighs 8lbs or so.

I have a 12lb AGM battery in the car now but it is not quite big enough, if I do not drive the car regularly it dies and has left me stuck once already at the gas station, started here, drove 6 blocks, would not start....

I have a PC680 I put on the trickle charger then load tested it just last week, it was on the shelf a couple of years, or more, tests fine.

I also have a PC1200 but a bit overkill for my needs, I charged and tested it as well.

I can get an AGM battery in the middle of those for $99 shipped which I was going to order until I saw the Li batteries on the site I was on.

Rick, which model os comparable to the pc680?
Right after I got the car and weighed it, I was freaked out and wanted to drop even more weight, so that's why I looked into batteries. But then between price, reliability concerns, and removing weight off the front when traction is already an issue I stopped looking into it. Next year I will make that leap at some point though :)

So... I just put a new Lithium Iron Phosphate battery in my sound competition car and I was going to replace my FiST batt with one. I spoke to my 'batt guy' about the issue mentioned on the first page and he says that the nominal voltage of the battery mentioned is too high.

He has assured me that mine will be perfectly fine and will cause no issues. Now... they're not cheap, but just so you guys know... there is a Lithium solution.

What battery brand and size are you going to use?
It's a company called "JuiceBox". There is zero info on their really outdated website, but they have a FB and I have his contact info if anyone is seriously interested.

The one I use in my competition car is 12v, 40Ah (500wh). It supports 1,000A continuous draws and 2,000A+ burst capabilities. That one is ~ 30lbs and is 6"x6"x16" The one I am going to get for the FiST will be a 12v, 20Ah (250wh). It'll come in at around 14lbs and be PLENTY for whatever audio I want to put in the car. I'm also going to relocate it to the hatch and delete the front batt. I already have that wiring and stuff in place.

They are having a special on their batts right now for the 1st (20) orders. They can be custom made for shapes and colors too. Which is cool if you want to tuck it somewhere or showcase it or whatever.

Wonder why the etx36 was not recommended?
Anyone running a lithium battery they would recommend?
My goal is to find a battery that wont cause any issues, and save some weight at the same time-
odessey PC680 looks ok.

If the 680 can crank an M3 w/o issue we should have no problems with it in the ST...

I think I have the EXT12 in my car and it works quite well though I had to remember to turn off the AP if not starting the car up regularly, now the AP as auto off and I have a good battery tended I leave hooked up.

I think I would go to the EXT14 or 15 if picking one of those now.

I have a PC680 I no longer use if anybody is interested.

I have been spending a lot on other things lately, like the EFR turbo kit made, etc....so have not gone LI yet and might actually want to keep a bit more weight in the back so might not get one after all.

Do you have a photo of your battery mounting location? I was pondering the spare tire well....
