Using my friend's Access Port to flash my ECU

I know it's probably been asked before, but I couldn't find it.

My friend has a Focus ST, with Access Port V3. Is it possible / legal (from Cobb point of view) to use his Access Port to flash my ECU to stage 1 and return it to his car after?

No it is not possible since the Accessport can only be ''married'' with one car at a time. He will have to desinstall the chip from his car to install it on your

What he said, you can only install the tune to one car at a time.

In other words, he'll have to revert back to stock. Then, you can do it on your car. For the unit to go back to his car, you'll have to revert back to stock.

Well well, they thought of everything. I'm an IT guy, so I though there would be a way to factory reset the unit using a USB cable (leaving his tune intact). So basically, there is no way to revert the Access Port to factory settings by any means?

Yes, it's called buying another one.

Ok no problem, I was really planning on getting one anyways, so it was just in the mean time. Thanks for your answers.

ModBargains has a sale right now on Cobb products, it's worth the investment.[raceflag]

Not to mention the Focus ST and Fiesta ST have different accessports, so Cobb would have to be involved either way even if the AP wasnt married to your friends FOST.

Focus and Fiesta Cobbs are the same number and we switch from car to car before. The ATR software is diff though. However you can not flash one and go to the other. You would have to send it to Cobb and pay the fee to unmarry the AP from which ever car you flashed last. This cost $250 I think the last time I checked. Then you would not be able to return your car back to stock.

Not true, Focus and Fiesta both use AP-FOR-001.

Of course thought of a way you can't share accessports. If you couldn't do it with the old SCT tuners in 1999 why would things have changed?

Guess i was incorrect, i assumed COBB would have to do a software change on it from FOST to FIST

how are they the same? When you turn on the accessport it shows a picture of the car. it is made specifically for the focus or fiesta. not both.

Even so, the focus ST and Fiesta STs accessports are different. They arent interchangeable between cars anyways.
Sure you can as long as you return the current car (FISTor FOST) to stock and load the correct maps for your car (FIST or FOST) you can "borrow" them but you will need to do one or the other you cannot do this without unmarrying the AP from what ever car it is loaded to first.

Because the flasher identifies the car it's attached to. Flash a Fiesta, a Fiesta shows up. Flash a Focus, guess what happens?

As pointed out above, the model of AP3 is identical for both Focus and Fiesta use. The maps are all there.

^ Exactly this. I swap my AP3 between my FiST and FoST occasionally. All I have to do is remove the tune from one in order to tune the other.

As an added bonus, you can leave your maps on the device and not have to re-download them. My pro-tune for the FiST and stage 1 for the FoST are both saved to it so all I have to do is load and drive. Obviously the FiST tune doesn't show up as selectable on the FoST and vice-versa, but the maps are still saved.

They are the same. When you plug it into a focus the picture changes. lol we sell Cobb aps and we also have a FiST and a FoST at first I had one so that I took from car to car.
