windshield tinting

Sitting at the shop while my windows are getting tinted and the tech told me they can't tint the windshield because of something running along the top. Has anyone ran into this issue and/or know how to work around it?

I'm doing the entire windshield[/QUOTE

For medical reasons?
No. Because it looks better and means I'm not squinting when I'm driving home from work. For those concerned about visibility, there is little to no difference. My mustang had 50% and almost all of my driving was at night.

I have no idea what they're talking about making it difficult to install. I think they mentioned some kind of urethane having to be cut or removed and reinstalled.

I got my whole windshield tinted with Llumar Air-80. It is basically invisible but it blocks as much heat as a ceramic 40% tint and blocks 100% of UV. I do it so I don't have to worry about bringing a sunshade with me everywhere. I would definitely not recommend getting an actual darkening tint on the windshield unless you have a medical reason for it. And in response to the first poster, the tint shop didn't mention having any difficulty applying the tint.

Ah, finally got a coherent answer out of them. There's a sensor by the rearview mirror that's glued on or attached with something fairly strong. They said they could take it off and tape it back or see if the dealer will put it back.

My front is tinted. Went with 70% so not very visible. They did a great job and did not have to remove anything.

I agree with all this. And I have the zillion dollar air-80 as well. It was expensive. I have 3M 25% all around as well because the last thing a really loud, kinda fast Ford Fiesta needs is another reason to be pulled over or ticketed.

I did have a 2001 focus with 50% on the front. It was ok. I really likes how it made it hard to see inside the car from any angle, at any time of the day. And it was on a black car, so it was not super obvious.

I think i paid as much for the front windshield as i did the rest of all the other windows. Luckly, one of my best friends co-owned the shop. I think it was $260. But he told me just the material for the front was very expensive, where as even the good tint ( lumar/3M ) is actually fairly cheap for what it cost to get it installed ( so much so, that he opened his own tint shop 5 months later ).

Anybody know if its illegal or legal in California to apply clear winshield protectant, like the kind used for clear bras, onto your front windshield. My FiST windshield is becoming covered with little pits and cracks after only one year. Unlike most windshield products, I'd like this film applied to the outside of the window. I have replacement/repair insurance, so I'm hoping to get hit by a rock big enough to crack the windshield. Then, if its legal, apply clear protectant to the windshield.

Dang, skittle. They charged me $225 for 20% everything, including sunroof, and 50% on the windshield. My 14 mustang was basically straight piped and I never had any issues with my 50% windshield or 20% sides and rear. Small-ish Midwest city might be the difference.

no dealer i know would do that because the clear bra material isnt optically clear enough. anyways last time i checked other than a factory band on top its illegal to tint your windshield in california.

Its that air-80 stuff, its really expensive. I think he told me they charged like $600 to do a normal 4 door car in it.

I worked at a tint/stereo shop when I was 19, and we charged $100 just for the front window cause it was illegal. And we only did it for customers with benz's or lexus type cars. Our tint guy did my focus for $40. He said that was the price for just the tint ( Lunmar ).
