Well maybe i jinxed myself when i posted earlier that the FiST was safe in storage and not out and about in the winter..... Just got a call this morning while at work from the guy who's place it was being stored at, the building with 20+ cars burned to the ground last night and not a single thing is salvageable. Went out to see for myself today and the fire was so hot it melted my intercooler to nothing, along with the wheels and pretty much everything else on the car. Insurance looks like they will pay me back the purchase price of the car but still pretty upset to put it lightly. Not really sure what my plans are at this point or even whats happening, it's all too soon to really say...

Very sad news indeed.
Hope you decide to purchase another FiST and stay with us.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

There is currently an investigation into what caused it so can't post any pics until it's complete. The whole place is burnt pretty much right to the ground and you can just see the crash bar of the FiST through some ruble where the roof came down.

I have it bad but nothing compared to some of the other guys who stored stuff there, it was a pretty good spot with heat and humidity controls so there were numerous old muscle cars there (440 R/T Charger, Camaros, Mustangs) and even an early 40s Harley, all totally destroyed. At least i can go out and buy another FiST if i choose that route, those guys would have a lot harder time!

Horrible news. Sorry to hear that but I'm glad insurance is paying you back in full. Did you insure the mods as well? I hope you get another FiST, as we're a rare breed here in Canada.

I glad it was the ST and not the 510, sucks to lose the ST of course though!

Then I read about all the other cars, I hope they were properly insured.

I know somebody that lost a 10 year incredible build on a 57 Nomad in an uninsured fire.

Not sure in CA and your policy but I keep all my mod and tool receipts and picture files in a fire proof safe and make sure my policy covers such things. I would not take no for an answer easily with any insurance company, make them pay, you have paid them plenty I am sure!

I hope you get another one buddy but will understand it you do something different, I get an ST again but would have to as it is the only car that fits my needs, fits my trailer, and is fun enough to make me happy.

Sorry for your loss...I hope you get reimbursed quickly. By the way, I work at a bank and depending on how your relationship with the bank is, many banks put holds on insurance checks for 7 business days if you need to deposit their check for some reason. So be prepared for that. Just make sure you endorse your check just like it spells your name on the front, because insurance companies will find ANY reason to return a check if they can...they are quick to take your money, but HATE payin it out.

It's nice that they're paying the purchase price, and not the depreciated price. That alone probably makes it so you're breaking even with the mods you installed. Good to hear nobody got hurt, sucks to hear about all the rare cars going down in flames.

I overlooked the part about paying the purchase price and depreciated, perhaps you can find a mint used car or look at 2-J's if you can import it without paying a fortune!

Sorry for your lost. But it is only material and nothing that cannot be replaced.

To get the mods they would have to be claimed on the insurance. Usually not many people do that as it drives the insurance stupid high.
CanadianST That said if you paid via a credit card call the credit card and you can have some of the money replaced depending on how long ago it was purchased. I did that for theft once. They may ask for proof of destruction but that would be very easier if the police and fire department are involved.

Thirdly the storage should have content insurance as well may want to look into that as they would reimburse a portion of the investment as well.

4th ly(?) you can also talk to your insurance about content insurance. Part of your insurance should be replacing "things" in your car, usually cash, jewelry, laptop, etc... You know the stuff that is not part of the car. If you had anything like that in the car you should get a return, I know mine is capped @ $1000 but it could help for things like floor mats (if you had expensive weathertech cargo or other), etc... (I would not try to claim the mods that are bolted in). I know it sounds petty but it is your call, you already have a claim adding to it does not affect the premium more. Just make sure you tell them it is the SAME claim and you forgot to include content.

Good luck.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone.

As CanadianGuy mentioned mods were not claimed on insurance so they're a right off no way of getting the money back for them, but if my insurance does give me the purchase price (have to wait till monday to find out) it'll pretty much cover them.

At the moment I'm not sure if I'll go with another ST since going back to stock would be pretty hard after having mine done up like i did.

Still just weighing my options but have been approved on A handful of cars I'm looking at that are for sale in my extended area.

2009 Nissan 370z
2011 Mustang GT
1999 Silvia S15 R-Spec (rhd)
2013 Subaru BRZ
1987 Corolla Levin (rhd)
1996 Skyline GTR (rhd)

What's everyone's opinions?

You could go after the storage company's insurance for the extra mods. Just provide the receipts and proof of the installs.
