Cxracing coilovers first impressions

Well I posted a thread about these a few months back and most people said to stay away. But for $590 shipped i figured i'd give them a try.

The spring rates are 5k front 4k rear and they're offered in either red/black or blue/black, I opted for red. these are 32 way dampening adjustable, predload adjustable and height adjustable. After doing some research I am pretty sure they're made in the same factory as bc, megan, k sport and a few other brands. I actually wouldn't be surprised if they weren't all just anodized different colors and sold as different brands. But I can't say for sure..

I didn't take any pictures of the install, sorry! but it was very straight forward. Everything fit the way it should and there were allocated spots for the front sway, wheel speed sensor wire, and brake hose. As far as i could tell the preload wasn't set from the factory so I went ahead and set it myself. It was very easy, just spin up the upper collar until the spring is taught, spin the lower collar until it hits the upper one, and then turn the upper collar up until you've got enough clearance between the two to fit the spanner wrench in. once you've got the upper collar in place spin the lower one up to lock them in to place. Sorry if my wording is confusing lol.

old vs new

once installed

The fronts and rears are just about bottomed out. they're spun up maybe 1/4" from their lowest setting. I'm pretty happy with this height but we will see if they settle at all. Currently i'm just tucking the top of the tire both front and rear.

I've only driven about 15 miles so far but i'm extremely impressed. I have the dampeners set 15 clicks from hard on all four and i would not say they're any less comfortable than stock, not bouncy at all. The car corners noticeably better with almost 0 body roll. Acceleration and braking feels more planted as well.

I have STs on my mk1 rabbit and the cx racings feel much more comfortable. But then again the two cars are like comparing apples to oranges, the rabbit is 31 years older, has all poly suspension bushings and is altogether much more raw of a car.

We will see how these hold up long term. But hey! At we have options.

The fiST was supposed to be my all year round daily lol. Modding cars is a slippery slope lol :)

And here's a pic of my 20vt rabbit for good measure

Nice initial review, keep up updated! They do look private label, but as you said at sub $600, good for folks looking to drop on the cheap

I had bought CX racing coils for my S13 240sx number of years ago and they blew after about a month. Hoping that quality has improved since then. Please keep up updated.

They are not made by the same place that makes K-Sport. As K-Sport makes their own in house, ive been there and seen the production.

Good cheap set up though, glad you decided to be the Guinea pig [thumb]

EDIT: That may sound misleading, K-Sport does buy afew pre-made parts but their stuff is almost 100% made in their Gilbert, Arizona facility.

They haven't settled much, maybe an 1/8". The ride is still good, i've got a squeak in the passenger rear. I haven't looked in to it yet but hopefully nothing i can't fix with some silicone grease.

Hey guys, 5k mile update.

I had the car in the air for an oil change and winter tire swap so I got a chance to look over the coilovers. Everything still looks good, struts are not leaking and they still ride like the day I got them. The squeak I initially had has gone away as well.

I also put some white lithium grease on the spring collars so hopefully they don't seize up too bad over winter!

BC Racing makes most if not all the none Japanese Asian coilovers, many brands made by them.
They made me a custom setup for one of my project cars and I was very pleased with the results, great in fact.
The BC units are made to their highest standards, none if any others are the same quality, likely the CRX are not quite as good.
I do hope they work out for you of course, seems good so far:)

I like the GTI, cool car!

Note: I worked directly with the owner of BC on the custom setup I had them build, he was a very cool real enthusiast:)

how hard is it to adjust the rear dampers on your BC's?

WOW, I hardly ever forget such things and can recall in detail thousands of car mods, tuning, etc....I am sure nothing to do with sitting here having a few rare in the US German beers or being 63......I forgot it adjust on the top or bottom....but it does not seem it was a big deal either way.

I have had cars/coilvers, where I had to drill holes and make custom adjusters to make it viable for a car seeing quite a bit of track and autocross duty, I think this one is not to bad.
