Forum photo gallery and auto linking

Hello!

I've noticed a couple of things that seem odd, one is I guess expected, but still odd.

  • Photo gallery: I have one photo in the photo gallery. It's pretty small. When I fetch it back, my system says it's a bout 179 KB. In the grand scheme of things, that' tiny. Yet, when I go to upload other photos to my gallery, I'm told that I'm exceeding my space limit by some 118 KB. Wow. That's tight. Is that really the spec on uploads?
  • Auto linking in threads: I like to insert text links when applicable to my posts. However, I've noticed that random text links will pop up in my posts that are not really related to anything I've posted, but kind of relate to the subject of the specific word being link. What's REALLY strange is I just went back to find some of them, and they are GONE. I KNOW I'm not imagining things. They will link like to Ebay listings for "brake pads" or 'RT700" brake fluid. Is that expected behavior? The fact that they are gone now is REALLY strange.

Any thoughts forum peoples?

When you say photo gallery do you mean this section? http://www.fiestastforum.com/gallery/

I have it set to allow close to 1mb per photo so it is really odd you are getting that error.

As for the random links, we have a plugin call Vigilinks installed for guest users. What it does is link certain keywords to an affiliate program for the site. It's supposed to only show for guest users and not regular members, so whenever you see it, it's probably a glitch that randomly appears after you reply to a thread. However by default you shouldn't see it at all.

Hmmm. Well I'm thinking of an area called the "Album": http://www.fiestastforum.com/forum/album.php?albumid=103

Thanks for the info about the auto-links. I'm basically always logged in when I land here, so that is kind of strange about those links. They typically show up after I've posted a new response or updated a page (like my build page).

Side note: Wouldn't it be easier to just let us all do "text links" in our signatures. The full-links work. They are just kind of clumsy looking.

Let me take a look at the Album issue later on today.

As for the linking let me discuss this with the other admins. The reason why we've been opposed in the past is that we wanted to see where the link goes and is not being used for spam.

Great. Can't you just ban a spammer if detected? Or put some kind of gate on who gets to use text links? You guys enable for staff/admin/moderator types. Seems like you can set some kind of a threshold for enabling for the unwashed masses as well. Like N number of posts, X rep points, or some combination of duration on the forum plus those. No worries, not a big deal at all. I just like how neat and clutter signatures look without the full URLs (not everyone has a domain of their very own!).

Hmmm. Well, I tried to upload a little photo as a test. Basically the same one I used for my avatar.

I was able to accomplish step 1 upload and then the step 2 drag to include. I clicked Done, but the new image does not seem to stick even though it initially appears to be included in the album. Then, after existing and re-entering I get this when i try to upload the file again (after seeing it is not really in the album): '

This photo exceeds your total album file-size quota by 16.7 KB.

The file is bigger than it needs to be (344KB).But, that's far from 1 MB.

Again, not a big deal, just an odd behavior.

The forum measures uploads in Bytes, I've made the upload size 1000000 Bytes so its odd that it won't work. I just tweaked the dimension settings too, let me know if it works now.
