Over the weekend I installed a set of 2jr spec 6k/4k BC coilovers. I set the ride height about ? inch lower than stock on all four corners and have the dampers at 15 clicks from full soft front & rear. And I haven?t had an alignment yet.
I have a little route I like to drive spiritedly that is a circuit of on and off ramps with some windy roads in the middle. I drive it a lot and drove it before I did the install (was totally stock) and then again afterwards for a seat of the pants before and after. And the biggest difference I noticed before and after was increased understeer.
Even during a medium to low speed decreasing radius turn that used to be oversteer city?I?m getting understeer. When I brake late into the turn in zone? understeer. When I overcook it and come in to fast?understeer. In all these scenarios on stock suspension the car would always want to rotate.
But, I don?t feel like I?m going any slower then I used to, if anything I think the speed I?m able to carry through the turn is higher. And turn in feels really tight right up until the front wheels break loose. So I?m left with the feeling that absolute performance may have increased, but how the car behaves (feels) through the turn is totally different.
I know from reading a lot on this forum that these BCs are popular coilovers with people here, and with some that also track their cars so I?m hoping some of you guys can share if you have experienced the same thing? Maybe some set up tips? This is the first car I?ve played with the suspension on so I?m definitely still a newbie.
