BC coilovers first impressions

Over the weekend I installed a set of 2jr spec 6k/4k BC coilovers. I set the ride height about ? inch lower than stock on all four corners and have the dampers at 15 clicks from full soft front & rear. And I haven?t had an alignment yet.

I have a little route I like to drive spiritedly that is a circuit of on and off ramps with some windy roads in the middle. I drive it a lot and drove it before I did the install (was totally stock) and then again afterwards for a seat of the pants before and after. And the biggest difference I noticed before and after was increased understeer.

Even during a medium to low speed decreasing radius turn that used to be oversteer city?I?m getting understeer. When I brake late into the turn in zone? understeer. When I overcook it and come in to fast?understeer. In all these scenarios on stock suspension the car would always want to rotate.

But, I don?t feel like I?m going any slower then I used to, if anything I think the speed I?m able to carry through the turn is higher. And turn in feels really tight right up until the front wheels break loose. So I?m left with the feeling that absolute performance may have increased, but how the car behaves (feels) through the turn is totally different.

I know from reading a lot on this forum that these BCs are popular coilovers with people here, and with some that also track their cars so I?m hoping some of you guys can share if you have experienced the same thing? Maybe some set up tips? This is the first car I?ve played with the suspension on so I?m definitely still a newbie.

Been curious about the rear damping adjustor for the BC's. Are they accessible without lifting the car? Kind of like the ST's where you cut away a little of the carpet and drop a long Allen key to the top of the shock?

Mine needs to have the car lifted to get to the adjustor its on the shock body not inside the car it is like a round dial.. Most time for the street I set it and forget it.
But when changing tire for the track or a event I will give it a turn or more then..

Thanks for the links Rod, those are good. Is the one on the SE-R the same person that writes the MotoIQ handling guides? Without going back to look his name sounded familiar. Anyway, I turned down the front rebound to full soft and left the rear at 15 clicks, drove the same route the same way, and did notice less understeer and a bit more eagerness to rotate. Pretty neat stuff.

In my old civic I use to run 10k front 8k rear; oem sway front and Type-R rear sway; plus 225 tires upfront and 205 at rear and it rotated like a champ. Play with the setup even further. I'm sure if you add a TB rear torsion bar and a few more clicks to the rears it'll rotate some more.

Yea i have read that adding the rear TB bar does make the drive more tail happy, might check that out in the future. But before I do anything else I need to get the car aligned and corner balanced. Not sure where to get the latter part done :/, I'd love to tackle the corner weighting myself, but the scales appear to be a large investment for something I will probably do once. Overall I'm really happy with the coil overs so far, one thing I didn't mention in my first post is that the ride with these is really good (as pretty much everyone with them has said).
