Recently got my st and love it, but have noticed a whining noise from time to time ? Doesn't go away with speed ? Coming from the left side of engine as u look at it ? Where the altenator and all that stuff is ? Any ideas what this could be ?[/B]

Just going to do dash diagnostic to see the altenator is creating the correct amps..

Is it the infamous transmission whine? Heard when accelerating or cruising, goes away if you lift off the gas?

Our power steering is electric, so it shouldn't whine like the older hydraulic units (especially Fords!) used to. Your revs shouldn't drop appreciably either, unless holding the wheel hard over when stationary, which I wouldn't do as it's hard on every part of the system.

Perhaps it's alternator whine or a loose motor mount? Quite a few people having reported issues with various motor mounts.

Sorry you had to evade an idiot, but it sounds like you did the right thing. I hope the damage to your car and pocketbook are minimal.

I fitted a new front left strut today and all I'd well and straight again after the near miss..

Well I only need to put in small inputs to make the odd noise and I've checked the altenator for ampage and it's all fine ? Guess it could be a bit lose ? Not has this noise b4 from any car I've had ? First ford I've had thoe ? U know what it's like ? It never does it when there's someone about who might know what the f it is haha.. something ain't rite thoe ? It's embarking haha.. driving about in a nice car that sounds rough haha.. might get it a service next time I get paid with winter coming and that. Maybe they'll pick it up on that.. I'll try to do a video next time it makes this noise lol

Is your wife in the car with you when it happens? I always hear whining when mine is.

But seriously, this car has alot of little noises I wasn't used to when I first got it. If you know a mechanic, then have him explain a bunch of the random noises to put your mind at ease. If not, just book an appointment with Ford due to an engjne whine and have them diagnose it under warranty. No harm no foul.

Hey BuncyST,

I recommend reaching out to Ford UK about this, as they're in the best position to assist. Their number is 0845-841-1111.
