iPod/sync issue...sync randomly stops playing music

I looked through all these threads and didn't really find anything that might address this. I have an iPod plugged in via USB. I can start the car and select 'usb' from the interface and the music plays from the iPod. Randomly, sometimes after quite a while, sometimes after only a few songs, the system will stop playing music, a box pops up on the screen saying something about 'navigation SD card fault' and then immediately switches to the last input I used, usually AM radio. Car is a '14, bought in July of last year. Haven't done any updates to the system. Should I try that first? Sorry if this has been discussed before, I couldn't find it.

Not sure about your issue, but I think Ford had issued some sort of extended warranty on our cars Sync system. If it's a faulty hardware or software issue, they might replace your unit. Have you tried using a different iPod/iPhone or even a different cable?

On the topic of the update, I would suggest performing all updates to see if that addresses your issue. If not, you know you have a bigger issue than just needing a bug squashed.

Hi cxwrench,

I agree with FatGuyInALittleCar . Check for updates in your Owner account: Owner.Ford.com Log in and select the SYNC & HOW TOS tab then CHECK FOR SOFTWARE UPDATES. We released version 3.8 last week. Remove all USB devices and SD cards (including the one for nav) before installing the update. Let me know if this helps.

Ok, did the update. Plugged ipod back in, got through a song or 2 and it did the same thing. A window opens that says "Navigation SD Card Fault" "Please insert a valid SD card OR use turn-by-turn directons from Sync services". I'm guessing this will have to be fixed at the dealer?

It gave me the message that the update was successful, would the update even load files if the card was wrong? You'd think I'd get some kind of an error message, right?

The message is the same one I got before ever doing the update. This message has nothing to do w/ the update, in fact it's why I tried the update. The USB drive I used worked perfectly as far as I can tell.

Hi cxwrench,

Which SD card do you have (i.e. A4, A5,etc)? The card is located in the center console. You can pop it out.
