Help me find a glue/tape for the Dash

Hey everyone,

I am needing some input. Currently I have my accessport mounted to my dash on the left hand side right next to the AC vent utilizing some heavy duty 3M double sided tape and while initially it works, over the course of a few days it starts to slowly peel off. It doesn't help that the temperature around here gets up in the 90's but, it is what it is. So then I tried to mount the bare accessport using some Velcro to the dash. Since the Velcro's adhesive isn't all that good, I used some adhesive silicone "liquid nails" to mount it to the dash. That worked for about 4-5 weeks until it started to peel off. Now I am at the point where I found a hard drive magnet that I double sided taped to the dash to hold the accessport on, which works really well, but to my amazement, the tape is starting to peel off.

Anyone have a recommendation through personal experience on which adhesive will stick to our dashboards?

Thanks.

I haven't tried mounting straight to the dash, but my AP is mounted next to the navi. The double sided tape that came with the mount pad gave way to heat. I replaced it with some industrial grade molding tape, this stuff is sticky and has never failed in keeping the AP in place even the the 100deg F. heat here in SoCal.

I have used shoe-goo to adhere many things. It will handle the heat, yet peel off later if you want. I have used it on many extreme rc projects with excellent results.

When you say heavy duty 3M double sided tape was it 3M VHB Mounting Tape? Should have VHB printed on the adhesive liner. I have ordered it on Amazon.

I did the same with mine for almost a year. But it would drop about once a month. Eventually, I got tired of replacing tape and went in with two aluminum screws and permanently attached it to the same location with a piece of the same 3M tape in between the dash and the mount acting as a shock absorber. It's worked brilliantly, but it's not for the faint of heart.

If you decide to use a permanent solution, use a small drill bit to cut pilot holes and check the depth for the screws. Also, drill the mount holes first and use a graphite pencil to mark their location. It makes everything much cleaner if you are precise and take your time.

I would try some type of removable glue, but would never drill. The tape I have has been fine now for about a year without having to replace it.

Yeah that's the same stuff I used, from go pro mounts on my helmet and cars, to pretty much anything, the tape works flawlessly except on our dash...haha.

So my solution now has been the 99 cent epoxy from harbor freight. So far it has been holding up very well =)
