My Fiesta Won't leave me....

I started selling my Fiesta in June, when I changed Jobs...It has been Listed on autotrader, craigslist, and sitting a used car dealership on consignment.

What gives? I have owned over 40 vehicles in my life and non of them have taken this long to sell. If it was my pricing, wouldn't someone say, "Hey, I like the car, but you are too high!" ?

My friend that owns the dealership says it's priced well, but there is no interest. No activity.

I love this little car...I just don't understand why no one wants it...

Ideas?

Thanks!

Maybe you were just meant to keep it and sell something else. :)

Unless it's an incredible deal, most potential buyers are probably going new. I would. My 2c.

I was offered to buy a car pretty close to the specs I wanted that was a 2014 for about $5-6k less than what I paid, but I really wanted a new one to start out fresh being that I plan to keep this car for 10+ years. I think it was worth it to start out brand new and order the exact specs I wanted. I think a lot of other people are thinking the same. Unless someone wants that car specifically for the specs it has and doesn't mind used then even a decent priced used car isn't generally preferred over a new one. That's the reason cars lose so much value driving off the dealer lot. The people that can afford a newer used car can also afford a new car. The people that would want it most are going to be the ones who are looking for a deal and don't mind it having several thousands of miles on it.

This factored into my decision as well. Several used ones available, but rebates and easy financing meant it was cheaper to buy new. Not almost as cheap... Cheaper. Makes selling a used car with no broad appeal difficult. Future cult classic, anyone?

With my incentives and rebates on my new car it was still more expensive. But the other problem I would have had with buying the used one is that I was denied a loan from my credit union when I tried to get approved to buy the new one through them. I decided just to use Ford Credit and the salesman said my credit was good and he didn't know why I was denied. But I would have had a hard time getting a loan outside of Ford Credit so a new one was less of a headache and I got an incentive for it.

It makes more sense to buy something a couple years older. The younger generation doesn't understand that.... (and this is coming from a millennial).

I hated looking up my FiST's value after 1500 miles. You lose $5,000 almost instantly. That's not a wise investment.. But I NOW know that after experiencing it.

Now I got 0% apr over 3 years, with having basically no credit score at all, which isn't bad for building credit.

But I did find a Blue 2014 model, with 16k miles for $16,000, which had some mods on it while I was searching craiglist... Which is what I should have gone with.

If someone reading through the forums is debating on buying new or used, Id say used. I was worried about getting a car that has been abused, but this car loves being abused. These cars are built tough. (FORD TOUGH hahahahah)

I'm also surprised you don't see more used ones around for sale. I feel like this is a car people would "change their minds about". Or its just people don't buy these cars initially.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on buying used vehicles.

Good luck with your sale, BinaryST! Maybe someone will buy it for as an early Xmas gift. My FiST was on the lot for 3 months before I picked it up.. even though its already been 4 months for you

I only bought mine because it was a crazy good deal for a used one and I got more on trade in for my Fiesta SES than I originally paid for it so it closed the gap considerably. I also bought a $2000 Ford credit off a buddy who changed his mind for $1000 bucks. My SES was also financed at 6.99% and i got this one for 3.49%. So this car ended up a negligible difference from my SES and my weekly payment only went up $8.36. Oh and the ST had 11,000 less KM Lol.

Totally worth it :p

I bought my 2014 Fist (full load, recaro's, nav, etc) from a private seller.

He was asking 23k but I could tell he hadn't had much interest in the car.
Offered him 18k, now I'm rolling in a Fist.

So I would have to say the market for these cars is rather small and its probably going to be a difficult car to sell

Buying used is generally the smarter fiscal decision, but that's under the assumption that the seller is selling at a reasonable price. Many of them over-paid and are trying to sell their used ST for very close to new prices. I've seen it a lot more in the FoST community (granted, it's much larger) where someone is trying to sell their used ST3 for $1k less than I bought mine for new. Some even think that they can command higher prices due to aftermarket mods...lol.

If a used price isn't at least $5k below the comparably-equipped new model, I wouldn't even consider it. Especially knowing how the majority of these cars are driven, it just wouldn't make sense to me to pay more. All of the new models can be bought for under MSRP to begin with so don't pay the price for someone else's lack of negotiation.

I bet if you are willing to let it go for less than even your lowest you can move it. I had a 11' mustang and I took a huge hit (booked for 22k at the time, had it listed for 20.5 and when I sold it it was for 18.5) but I got it moved. I had tossed around trading off my fiesta and the dealer seemed not real keen on a trade in perhaps this lack of interest is known. For me it was for the better anyway I love my little pavement pounder and would have been kicking myself if I bid it good bye

You are in "America" land of the blind, ignorant, do what the ads tell them to....and I still love it.

There are those that get what this great car is about but the percentage is pretty low, most want big, bigger and biggest and simply have never been introduced to a car like the ST.

You can make this work out, keeping and enjoying it or find the right buyer and letting it go, it is all about intentions and belief;)

If I wasn't dead set on being debt free and getting my house paid off, I would keep it.

Yeah, the mindset of today's working class is that if I make 5k a month, I can afford 4k in loan payments and be in debt 600k. It just doesn't make sense...oh well...that's what happens when you get older.

Thanks for all of the input guys...Everything you guys said has been what I discovered, a little late. My mother in law has a Fiesta SES, she bought used and it held it's value...figured an ST would also...which I was wrong.

Buying used saves thousands, not hundreds....not sure what everyone is saying about how close the price is.

1) Lots of people don't like sticks.
2) Suggestion: park it in a college town or a mall with a 'for sale sign.'
