Terrible first experience with Ford

I purchased my CPO 2014 FiST in July this year with about 12,000 miles on it. Everything was running great until Thursday, October 22nd I was on my way from Williamsburg, VA to visit my wife in Philly, PA. About an hour and a half into the trip, while cruising at about 70, I lost all power and CEL came on. I pull over and the car dies on its own. Try to restart and no dice.

So I use my insurance to have the car towed to Purvis Ford in Fredericksburg, VA and they're initially very helpful. Set up a rental car so I can continue my trip and I'm on my way.

They call a day later and let me know that they'll be replacing the fuel pump and the car should be done next week on Tuesday or Wednesday. Monday rolls around and they call again saying that the part they need is back ordered and they're not sure exactly when they'll be able to get their hands on one.

Fast forward to now, more than a month and a half later, and still no progress. Every time I call I get the same exact answer, they're still waiting on the part. It's very hard for me to believe that they haven't been able to get the part by now and I'm wondering what's actually going on. Meanwhile, I'm racking up a huge credit card bill for this rental car that they assure me they'll reimburse me for and I'm paying monthly payments and insurance on a car I haven't even seen for 50+ days. What the hell is going on? [mad][mad]

This is my first time owning a Ford and after this whole ordeal I'm seriously considering getting rid of the car and getting another Subaru...

Get in touch with FordService here on the forum. They helped my situation move along after waiting almost two months for a transmission to come in.

Welcome to the Ford service experience. Great cars. No back to them. Sorry that's happening bud. I'd call Ford head office direct. That's who I had to deal with when my Ford faked the certification on my used FiST.

Good luck.

I think it more a case of dealership screw up than Ford.Whenever I needed something fixed on any of my Fords and this is my 5th.I took it to my trusted dealer and got the right service.I don't Go to the dealership where I bought my car because they're service sucks.

I wish I was able to chose who I brought it to but the insurance only covered up to 18 miles and I was on the road 90 miles from home.

Sorry OP sounds like you just happened to take your car to an especially lame dealer (I grew up in Fredericksburg).

I wish there were a decent review network of dealerships. Can't really rely on things like Yelp, because no one really goes to Yelp to review a dealership unless it's a complaint, really.

Do you know what the back ordered part is? There are many online OEM suppliers - https://www.bluespringsfordparts.com/oem-ford-parts.html - for instance. And to be selfish, I'd like to know just in case, for my own purposes!

Not sure on the part #. Just spoke with the dealership and they say the part will be shipping out on 12/22... They're still not sure if they will get the first shipment or not. This is getting ridiculous.

Thankfully my experience wasn't as bad as yours. I bought the car with only one key, it was at night maybe 8pm, and no one was in the service department. I drove around with one key and had them do the first service at 1k (LOF,Alignment + spec, key program) It took atleast 3-3.5 hours and they said the key was bad and had to order it(it was back ordered what a surprise). After a couple of weeks of being ignored, and later playing phone tag they tell me they received the part, I go to the dealer just to wait 3 more hours for them to not have any idea what they were looking at. i even asked to grab my wallet to run to the store and get food, and I ended up sitting down in my car diagnosing the issue with the for dude. Lol I ended up going back again droping it off this time. Never. Again.

I also had a bad experience. I purchased a 2014 FisT from Carmax on November 23rd. I noticed that I was having trouble downshifting into 3rd gear. I could shift up into 3rd no problem. I took it to Carmax and they took it to Ford since it was still under powertrain warranty. I got a loaner from Carmax in the meantime. 2 weeks pass and I hear they finally broke down the transmission and they expected to be done by the end of the week. I get a call yesterday and they tell me that it is actually a problem with the clutch and it needs to be replaced. They tell me the clutch is on back order for 6-8 weeks. I drove the car for a whopping single week and now I might be out my car for nearly 3 months. This is beyond insane.

By the way - just re-read and saw that the fuel pump was diagnosed, sorry. Was this the answer, or are you still stuck in Fredericksburg?

Huh... Thought I was the only one that ran into the FP problem. Same thing happened to mine around 10k miles. Fortunately for me, I was only stuck in rush hour traffic on a Friday afternoon.

Read my thread in this forum section titled "Jigsaw".

THE ENTIRE COMPANY & PROCESS IS ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC. I will never buy another ford ever again.

I'm right there with you Originsgarage, I've been a Subaru guy for most of my life and have never had any issues with them. I decided to try out the FiST since it was a fun car and I liked how it looked, but the incompetency of the brand is just not something I'm willing to deal with ever again.

Consider yourself lucky.

An update:
After being informed the part should ship Dec. 22nd, I gave them a call today, giving them plenty of time considering the holidays. After a few calls back and forth, they're now telling me the week of 1/11/16. I'm scheduled to move 6 hours north on the weekend of the 9th. I've never been so aggravated in my life. 10 weeks without a car I bought 6 months ago that I'm paying insurance and monthly payments on.

Wow thats really lame. There shouldn't be a back order on a fuel pump that long. The usa model of the fist seems to have a lot of drama these days
