Wanted others thoughts on this....it's been a while since I had a car with enough power to break the tires loose...my last serious build was a stage 3 Subaru, but it was AWD and traction was never an issue. I bought my Fiesta a month ago, the Cobb stage 1 tune made first and second gear insane, and yesterday I added a CAI which increases this issue all the more. I already have a downpipe on the way and a FMIC planned soon, I am wondering what you guys are doing about this issue. There is disabling traction control which I do at every start up now (unless it's raining) but short of an LSD I see this as only increasing as I add power mods.....shouldn't have been surprised that this is happening but I was kinda spoiled with AWD...it's not a bad thing but just a new thing to me, spinning tires and all.....

Thoughts?

You or your tuner can still control the boost per gear. I limit the boost in 1st, 2nd, and 6th. Still spins the tires, but not to the point of sitting still. And like Hijinx pointed out, a bigger turbo will give you a bit of lag and give the tires a chance to coup with power being feed to it in a steadly increasing manner instead for the stock turbo's donkey punch instant power followed by weak power.

Simple, Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R or if you're in a non-rainy climate you should be okay with some Federal 595 RS-R. The difference either make compared to the stock tires is astonishing. I do autocross and after swapping tires it's a whole new car.

This is a real pain for me, I am battling this issue trying to get good logs in 3rd gear. I am running 225 direzza star spec II, temps are like 40-50 and not helping, I kind of want some flares and even bigger tires because these tires are 8.5 tread width and can't fit much more under there as is. Here is a log from yesterday you can see it just wants to spin until like 75mph.

You guys think you have issues. It's -13 here and snowy. Running a cob stage 1 Economy tune and I can spin everything but 6th gear (because I'm smarter then spinning in 6th, but it probably could)

The very reason for an LSD and wider tires.

Also upgrading your rear motor mount(or at least the bushings) should decrease tire hop and wheel spin. This can be done on the cheap as opposed to wheels, tires and LSD.

I find this car stock has issues on anything but perfect tarmac.

I want a custom tune with artificial turbo lag to mitigate the immediate torque this engine puts out. But then again I'm used to a Subaru STi, which probably has the longest turbo lag of any modern car today. I really don't understand peoples incessant need to reduce turbo lag. Turbo lag is fun!

Turbo lag with just 300 or so WHP in a canyon run is not fun, barely enough power then too much all the sudden makes for a vary challenging and and sometimes scary drive.

I have 225 Rival S tires and when in Carson City NV around 285 WHP, serious lag, first gear, have to really feather it, second gear, warm enough for the tires to work, no spin at all, just GOES, I do have an LSD though as well as engine and transaxle mount, suspension bushings which do help....

I am in Sacramento right now, cool out, damp, more power as close to sea level, Mich PS AS tires, 3rd gear spins quite a bit unless the road is very dry.

As SS mentioned donkey kick and then falls on its face is the opposite of a laggy turbo with bigger power, the right size turbo so you make power everywhere possible makes for a far easier car to control and faster in most situations besides drag racing, why I am downsizing as Rodmoe has done as well or is doing, get the right size turbo for the job and have more fun, the stock turbo is not the one:(

For a great many the Cyborg makes is a great way to go, for those with a bigger budget and want a bit more HP on pump gas a DHM with a GT or smaller GTX might be better.

Then we get into race gas, missing ethanol blends, meth injection.....how complex or how simple do you want it to be.....I want to run pump gas and be done with it so spending the money and time to do so.

If you cannot control the car with your brain, right foot and proper selection of wheel/tire for the conditions you are having issues in then get an AWD car.

True in many ways but a car at the extremes is a bit more of a wild animal subject to considerable weather, road surface, driver mood, etc.....

And I found AWD rather boring, too easy, not a lot of brain needed to make it fast but lack of which can make it deadly for some.

It comes with boost limited in 1st and 2nd gears for a REASON. You add a tune that disables that and then wonder why you don't have traction? I'm surprised you don't complain about torque steer as well, probably because you can't hook up to begin with. ..

Having had dozens of modded cars over 4.7 decades I find AWD just to easy to go fast and most of the time on public roads it is easy to go faster than prudent in most any car so a well sorted out AWD becomes a bit pointless for most driving situations. I prefer the challenge of FWD over RWD or AWD. The only gain I feel worth it is in slippery conditions but I still like the challenge of taking a RWD as well as FWD places more would not think possible or at speeds one can achieve if driven well.

Hi. Big turbo here. I'm making some considerable power at the moment; a little over 2x what's stock. I get traction in 3rd, no LSD and not much torque steer to speak of. At least nothing like a Speed3. Marginally more than stock.
