Fiesta ST Lake Bed Rally Fun

I purchased my Fiesta ST with the hopes of starting to get into rally. After a few mods, [Blow-Off Valve, Mud Flaps, Symposser Delete, Steel Wheels (15x6), General Tire Altimax Arctic (yes, winter tires)] I finally went out to start practicing... Well, more or less just to slide around and have some fun. =)

Things got dusty pretty quick.

Today ended up being perfect weather, so I went out to a dry lake bed that's about 30 min out of Las Vegas. I brought 2 traffic cone I had and set up a figure-8. That got boring really quick, so I ended up just driving around and found myself creating a track in the dirt. After a few laps a decent track layout had been carved out and the fun began.

After about an hour, I changed the "track" a bit and made a larger version (toward the end of the Roof Video) Overall it was a great time and I'll most definitely be going back.

Anyone live in Nevada and want to come with next time? =D

No... funny story about the lake bed on the 15. I went out there a couple of days ago to try and do the same thing, but got stuck while on the trail to the lake bed. The trail suddenly turned into a rock wash and I got stuck. luckily there was a f150 near by to pull me out.

He pulled me back about a half mile and my mud flaps and pass-side inner fender lining got ripped off. Nothing some new clips and a few zip-ties couldn't fix, but I am defiantly not going back there.

No I went to the one in between Las Vegas and Boulder City. Right along the 95.

And yes, it did end up being more of a rally-X course. Once I get some actually dirt tires, I'll look at making a larger, faster course.

Cool sheat!

If I had a house, garage, etc....instead of RVing I would love to have a second FiST for the dirt, snow and errand running in adverse weather:)

Sounds fun! We will be in Quartzsite in a couple of weeks or so for 2 months.....maybe we can hook up:)

Fun off road in a dry lake bed.....

Back in 07 I rented a Mazda 3 for my kids to drive at a two day autocross school in Wendover UT, on the NV border, but when we went to pick it up on the way they did not have it. I looked over what they had and saw a 350Z, automatic, I picked it, it was pretty quick stock, all seasons, etc...we had lots of fun. I had the spare tire, jack, carpet, etc outside the car of course then a huge stormed rolled in and the carpet went off into the sky like Dorthy's house on the WOZ, clear out of site, cool:)

Huge rain coming down so my daughter and her boyfriend headed out to the salt flats and my son and I followed in the 350Z. It was wet and a bit slippery but not soggy so we hit the flats and I was doing power slides at 100MPH, 360s, etc...huge fun!

Got out and looked at the amount of salt packed all over the car so headed to a car wash and a bit of coin later left with a much lighter car, kids had a great day the next with championship level instructors, took it back to the rental office, had paid for full insurance so no questions asked but let know the wind blew away the carpet:)

It was interesting to park right by the hanger the Enola Gay was kept in between practice runs and just a few miles from Bonneville Salt Flats, very thought provoking to say the least considering the huge history of both.

Haha, well that sounds like it was a... "Gay" ol' time! ...Sorry, couldn't pass that pun up.

Anyways, that does sound like a fun time though. They always say, "The fastest car in the world is a rental car." I'm not sure if my FiST can do 100mph spins, and not to sure I want to try. haha xD Well.... maybe when I get a roll cage, then we can try.

I drove it like I stole it and most all my cars get the same treatment even if making payments.

-------------

Funny, reminded me when I was a kid a long long time ago when my stepdad started calling one of my sisters Shirley Gay because she was always happy and she turned out to be not the current use of the word in the least though is strong as an ox and won arm wrestling competitions against guys much bigger than she is in heavy weight class and has a skinny husband:)

One night in a pool competition a guy was picking on her hubby, Vietnam Vet, disabled, the guy was a 275 lb body builder, she got in his face, he swung at her, she knocked him out with one punch, I am very proud of her for that!

She is probably around 225 and not fat, just big. She grabbed me from behind at a New Years Eve party and I told her to let go or I would flip her and she thought it was funny so I did, oops, broke her ankle on the counter top edge which I felt bad about of course but she never messed with me again though I know she really could kick my arse easily.

I have to admit I come from a very disfunctional family:)

-------------

Back sort of on topic....

I took her for a few rides in my 510 Rally inspired car in the 70's out in the woods, screamed like made she did but loved it. I took here to the hospital one night, got pulled over, turned on his lights and said follow me, passed him, lost him.....no ticket, times have changed eh!
