Depends on what ticket one's trying to punch, imho. I love the FiST, and thought it drove seriously better than the FoST, though the Focus would be more comfortable, day-to-day, I'm sure. And the mod availability difference could be important to some. [Make that VERY important to some!] But let me be clear--I love my car!

For me, it was because I didn't want a big car. My buddy and I have PB cars - he has a FoST and I have a FiST - both with AP V3s - though his FoST now has a Cobb Intake and Intercooler too. I will soon have the same. I think the Fiesta is the prettier car - I couldn't get past the Focus' ugly butt and those wacky rear tail lights.

I drove it and it feels bigger and heavier than my Fiesta. If you want a Go-Kart, get a Fiesta. If you have kids, get the Focus.

Well put from what I went thru.. waiting for the ST I almosted caved and grabbed a FoST they had on the lot but the budget committee VETO'd that saying I would be mad at myself and she didn't want a Red colored car again.. So I waited and am glad I did..

I, too, passed on an on-the-lot FoST (a PB one, btw! [poke]) to wait and drive a MOM FiST that cemented my desire for the latter model; then I lucked out when the dealer found a RR one (my personal pref--coming from a sapphire blue Honda Fit--seems everyone wants a change!) nearby.

When I was running all over the place looking for a Fiesta ST last October and November, I made it over to a dealer who had 8... yes EIGHT Focus STs on the lot. They had 0, yes ZERO Fiesta STs, not even a single one for allotment (they couldn't even order me one). They tried to get me into a FoST so bad... instead, I just pointed to the parking lot and said "There's my Focus ST!" (2011 Mazdaspeed 3). My MS3 had only 34,000 miles on it was absolutely perfect. Why on earth would I want to trade for basically the same car? Yeah, the FoST is faster in a straight line than the FiST... but the FiST has so much more character and visceral "feel" to it. You can throw it around and the response and grip are amazing. The cost of ownership is also less, lower car payment, lower insurance and better gas mileage. Just more fun to drive, period. Agree with all the points made here...plus, Hagerty's List of Top 10 Future Collectibles includes the FiST. So unless we destroy our cars, it just might retain a greater value than the FoST?

Nah, the Fiesta just just fine for kid duty too. In fact, my two like the ST better than the MS3 I had. They say it's more fun and even a tad bit more comfortable. I have no idea, I've never sat in the back seat! lol

Yeah I've fit a car seat or two in the FiST already without a problem, and with all the requisite side and back latches. She had fun :)

I buy/sell/trade my cars very often. When I was looking for my next one, late 2013 I was looking at the FoST, the mazda hatch and Subaru WRX. Well, the Subaru WRX won that size class. Then I had the bug again so I bought the FiST. No need for me to have a FoST which is very similar in size to the WRX.

As a first gen Focus owner I just prefer the size much more. To me the Fiesta ST nailed everything that the original Focus SVT missed.

The whole "it handles better" thing is odd to me. I think it was motortrend that tested it and reported the focus beat it in every category except the slalom. In my opinion the fiesta handles better than the focus (I've driven both) just weird the reviews don't reflect that?

Do you know what their driving test consisted of? If it was just acceleration, top speed, quarter-mile time, and maybe gs in a turn, I can see the FoST winning that. But in agility I think the FiST wins easily, or at least does so in my hands. As soon as I started driving the FiST, it felt like it knew how to respond to what I was asking of it, so maybe it's just easier to drive in what I'll call a sporty manner.

I'm not sure, I'd I have to reread it. But I agree with you 100%
