It is with uncontrollable happiness that I can now join this illustrious forum after 6 months of lurking. Yes, today I ordered a 2016 White Platinum FiST with black wheels. Nice and simple. This will be my first FoMoCo product. My dad worked for GM for 45ish years, and I guarantee he felt a disturbance in the force as my order was sent off. Oh well, can't be helped. Anyway, lately I have been anti-new car. Too big, too heavy, too much to go wrong. AND TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE. I was looking around for a early 90s 5 series manual wagon(unicorn), a relatively unmolested and affordable 944 turbo (unicorn-ish?), Volvo p1800 (sooooo sloooowwwww, but dat class tho), W115 Benz diesel (sooooo sloooowwww x2, but dat class tho), etc. That is until I watched the smoking tire episode with the FiST. I felt like angels descended into my living room, and knew that I had to drive one. I drove one, and I knew I had to order one. I ordered one. Now its the painful 6-8 week wait. In that time, I can daydream about the mods. I know for sure that I will be tinting the windows, and getting a set of Fifteen52 turbomacs (in white, of course). And there will definitely be performance mods, I am just unsure of the time frame. Right now, I am thinking of driving it stock for 6 months or so. Enough time to shake it down, and to make sure the factory screwed the thing together correctly, then off for the AP, tune+ tune, motor mount, intercooler,.....yada yada you all know the formula. I'm not sure what I am going to name her yet, but I have time to figure that out.
Now the flipside of the coin. Saya. My old girl. So trustworthy and dependable. She is a 2003 Vibe GT (yes, the one with the 2zz-ge and 6 speed, same thing the lotus elise has, just carrying around 700 more lbs). I bought her on May 12, 2002, and have driven every mile but about 50. She has almost 223k on her(stock clutch!). I also have a 2006 gmc canyon. I am unsure what to do. Sell her? It will feel like I am selling my oldest child. Keep driving her until she dies? At the rate she is going, that will be another 14 years. I do not need 3 vehicles, but then again, its only $30 a month for liability. She isn't burning any oil, and still gets 30ish mpg. Ok, I'll keep her, crisis adverted.
Me? I live close to Indianapolis, In. One degree in Biochem, going back for another in ME, and work for one of the larger biotech firms in the city. I eat, breathe, and sleep cars. I also like mountain biking (brown county FTW!), computer nerd, A\V Geek, and a hipster (don't judge). I also like long walks on the beach, cuddling, and chick flicks................or not. Anyway I digress, I am just so excited about this car that I am putting down anything that is popping into my head. Half of you are probably laughing right now, the other half are pre-emptively blocking me as a precaution. The main takeaway is this: I love cars, I know cars, and if any of ya need a hand wrenching within 2 - 3 hour radius of Indianapolis, I will be there, just feed me and give me a Bell's two hearted. As long as I don't have home work that weekend. Or a test the following week. Or just want to take a nap.
I look forward to joining in on this forum,
D
P.s. seriously, I'm not really crazy.
