gearbox help

ADVICE I just had the gearbox oil changed in a mk 6.5 st and there was alot of contamination of filings from the gears has anyone experienced this I think it's the first change from new (I'm the 3rd owner so not entirely sure) is this caused from it from new or is my box knackered? Thanks in advance

Hard part about a used vehicle is you don't know how the previous owner treated the vehicle, unless it is really obvious. If you noticed shavings in the drained fluid, it might not hurt to drain it again shortly and check to see what is in that drain. A magnetic plug might help weed anything else out floating around.

Unless the tranny is sounding a little strange, you might put thousands of k's on it without it starting to implode... good luck.
