Traction or No Traction Control for AutoX?

Curious if more experienced racers run with or without traction control.

Being the novice I am, I added almost 3 seconds on my run because I was sliding on turns without TC at the last AutoX event.

Is the TC good enough that there's not a reason to turn it off to go faster? I know its a brake based TC or something along those lines (or so I'm lead to believe).

ok in all seriousness. if the event will let you leave it on. then go for whats fastest and fun for you.

although if you want the best advice. call sam at stranoparts.com

he actually sells some parts for our cars and he has 5 or 6 national SCCA autocross champtionship trophies.

sam is a beast

AX runs are short and quick vs tracking, so the abuse heaped on brakes with ESC on is harsh, but short.

Have fun trying different combos. Let the car teach, its better than most of its drivers will ever be as it sits.

It will not take long enough for you to decide what works best for you to worry about pad life or tire wear vs ESC settings if you stick with AX.

As a novice tracker, it took me a whole day to figure out ESC off was best for me. Then 2 more whole days to figure out what I really wanted was a LSD. Those are some of the best days I have ever had in a car.

ESC off is faster because when the tires are getting cooked at the end it will limit your throttle a lot.

As an aside, you will learn that the turns at the end of a run have to be driven a bit less aggressively than at the beginning. If you don't see that happening, you aren't aggressive enough at the beginning.

On dry pavement, TC full off is definitely fastest

On track, I hate the way it handles with the nannies on. My recommendation is turn them off and listen to what the car is telling you. The only possible exception may be a wet track. Sport mode may be helpful in that situation.

I'm faster with ESC off. For me you have to be aggressive without over doing it. Very fine line.... I have new tires this year so I'll update if the sticker tires change anything.
