Broke a vacuum quick connector... Can somewhat tell me what this is?

Hey all,

I swear I'm the resident noob on this forum. I've been dealing with a first gear limp mode issue for the last two months. While checking all of my cables I notice I broke a rib on one of my vacuum line quick connectors. Pulling up on the line lets me see the line's red o ring. I looked at every hose in my intake circulation system and couldn't find anything other than oil from blow-by. I remedied that with a Damond Motorsports catch can.

Can someone tell me what this line does and what I can do to replace it? I'd just get some worm clamps and rubber hose but I can't tell how the end that goes into the body of the car connects. Any ford techs lurking?

In case it's not apparent, in the first picture, it's the vertical connection in the middle of the picture. You can't see but one side of the connector is broken... Allows you to pull it up to the point where the o ring is exposed. Since my issue only happens in First gear, I figure the jolt of shifting might nudge the cable up. I'd like to replace it but how? In the second picture, behind the cowl the line goes into the body of the car. Could I cut an end off and worm clamp a vacuum line into the original?
