Ford has denied that a Fiesta RS is in the works, but is there still a chance for a hotted-up version of the Fiesta ST? According to Autocar, a Ford Fiesta ST "Plus" could debut at the upcoming 2016 Geneva auto show to plug the gap between the 197-hp Fiesta ST and the 252-hp Ford Focus ST.

Autocar says that the Ford Fiesta ST Plus is a more reasonable addition to the product range than a Fiesta RS, as the latter would likely step on the toes -- in terms of both performance and price -- of Ford's larger Focus ST. Instead, the Fiesta ST Plus will reportedly remain front-wheel drive, but its 1.6-liter turbo-four engine could get some extra power. It's worth noting that Ford tuning partner Mountune has already extracted 215 hp from the Fiesta's engine, thanks to new engine-management software and a new intake pipe. The Fiesta ST Plus might also receive handling and braking upgrades, Autocar says, along with a "more extreme" body kit.

Rumors had longed circulated that Ford would build a Fiesta RS to follow in the footsteps of the all-wheel-drive Focus RS, but last month Ford quashed any hope for a pint-sized RS. Ford Performance chief engineer Tyrone Johnson told reporters that, "In terms of Fiesta RS, I have seen some comments from senior Ford people that it’s definitely not in the plan."

Keep your fingers crossed that a faster Ford Fiesta ST is still in the works, and stay tuned to see whether the car debuts in March at the Geneva show.

From Autocar.co.uk

The car maker has refrained from providing comment, but Autocar understands a hotter version of the Fiesta ST is on its way, sold under the name ST Plus.

The faster Fiesta, one of seven new Fords planned for this year, will be a powered-up, more focused version of the Fiesta ST rather than a full RS model.

More power and torque are expected from the ST’s turbocharged 1.6-litre engine, which has so far been tuned to 212bhp and 236lb ft in its most potent Mountune form. A sharper chassis and more extreme bodykit are other likely additions to the car.

Rumours that a Fiesta RS would be produced appear to have lost momentum, possibly because there’s no room for such a model in Ford’s tightly compacted hot hatch line-up.

The Focus ST, for example, produces 247bhp from its turbocharged 2.0-litre engine and is priced from £22,745. But the Fiesta ST is only 35bhp down on this once the Mountune kit has been added, and in its top-spec form it’s barely a couple of thousand pounds cheaper.

The four-wheel-drive Focus RS has set a trend that a Fiesta RS would have to follow, but such a car would likely tread on the toes of the Focus ST. A slightly less hardcore Fiesta ST Plus model would therefore squeeze more neatly into the available line-up.

Ford does want to produce more RS models at a later date, however. The firm's global sales and marketing chief, Stephen Odell, said at the recent Detroit motor show that RS “was a really valuable brand” and that the company had “an opportunity to keep it fresh”.

Just yesterday, Ford announced it will be unveiling a new model, its latest in-car technology and the latest Ford Smart Mobility developments at this month's Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona. Though nothing more has been revealed, we expect the updates to come part of a Kuga facelift.

Translation: All the bullshit rumors about an RS version have been crushed so let's make up a slightly more believable rumor to get more page clicks.

They even explained why this makes no sense in the article. You can already get a more powerful version of the FiST through a tune and mods from Mountune if you want to keep your warranty or anywhere else if not. Any more than that and you might as well get a FoST for a few bucks more. If they do end up coming out with an upgraded version, I'd be shocked if we get it in the states. If anything, I'd be less surprised to see a model refresh for the FiST for 2017, though I haven't heard much about it and I think Geneva would be early for the reveal.

But .... why? Aftermarket has got "aftermarket" cornered. In Europe there is such a thing as a ST215, but that is just a ST with Mountune parts thrown in. As others have said "there is no cash in it". Better to spend money in advertising the FiST so when the new model rolls around there won't be any previous gens sitting on the lot, than create more overlap in such a small market.

I can already see it now. New family shopping 2017 Fiesta models. Budget of around 22,000.

Sales: "Oh over here we have the Fiesta ST."
Couple: "ST?? It looks like a 16 model, with the older bodystyle, we're shopping 17s "
Sales: "But it's an ST"
Couple: "Whats an ST?"
S: "It's the upgraded sport model, it's the same price as this 17 Fiesta."
C (looks inside ST, gazes back at 17 model) "Why would I pay the same for less features"
S: "Well, its an ST, they don't make them anymore, *(I'm assuming Ford will quit making the FiST)*, it's already deeply discounted from 25,000"
C (wife): "Honey, it says here on the window sticker that there is no backup camera, we need a backup camera because of Joshie"
C (Hus): "Sorry, we are interested in the 17, not a leftover 16 with none of the newer features"
S: "But.. it makes sounds, want to hear it, I'll let you drive it, here I'll grab the keys for both and we can test them out"

Anyways there is such thing as a ST "Plus", the ST with all the boxes checked and you'll near a 27,000 dollar Fiesta.

Perhaps you need more space, more features, more power, more leather, upgrade to the Fiesta "Plus Plus", aka the Focus ST.

If any of this "Plusness" is to be believed (likely not true at all), it's probably just a Monotune-equipped Fiesta for show.

I think we just have to wait now. FWIW the rumors about an "ST Plus" (I imagine more power, but not "RS Power" more like the Mountune 215HP power, and maybe a different bodykit) are completely true..... Also, there is something about an "ST-Line" (maybe wearing a 140HP 1.0L Ecoboost like the one on the "RED/BLACK Edition" Fiestas and a Fiesta ST 'ish bodykit) coming at the end of this Model Year (Let's remember that 2016MY is the last model of this Gen, so it would make sense)...

However, are we going to have those models here in America? Could that be the case of another two "EU-Only" models just like the "Zetec S" and "Red/Black" editions? That's yet unknown.

Agreed! I seriously doubt that we will see any additional trims here in the US or Canada.

Except we won't since the article states it's for Europe only and our Fiesta ST makes the same as this st200.
Nope, our fiesta ST makes the same 180HP (197HP with overboost) than the Euro one. This new one makes 197HP (212HP with overboost) which is 17HP (or 15HP with Overboost) more than the US Spec Fiesta ST.

Let's remember that a "ST Plus" it's on the way (let's imagine this as a ST200 5 Door twin brother) for the States.
