The problem of it not always being able to go into first, I've experienced in my FiST and a number of other manual trans vehicles I've had. I don't consider it an issue (personally) since I've experienced it early on in a cars life, and 2 of them lasted to over 100K miles without issue.

The second issue, it sounds like perhaps you just didn't quite engage it into gear all the way. I've had it "pop" out of gear before too only to realize that I just missed it a little bit, tried again, and it was just fine.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. If it KEEPS popping out maybe there's a problem but sounds like it isn't a big deal.

Thought this would be a good place to ask this strange question. When I bought my Fiesta 2 years ago, it came with a strange issue and I wondered if other Fiesta ST cars had this. 2 problems exist, neither being too bad. 1:When my Fiesta pulls to a stop, it sometimes(not really all that much) won't go into 1st gear. When you pull up, you put it in neutral and like there is something blocking it, the shifter won't go into 1st. I have found that you can jam it in but it always worries me to do that. Sometimes you can shake the shifter some and it will go in when you return to the 1st spot. I don't really know what could be wrong. Any info? 2: If you drive my Fiesta hard(reving to 7k or 8k rpm), when you shift into 2nd gear, you have to hold it in that spot or it pops out. And it seems to pop out into an unknown in between spot. It makes a horrible gear grinding noise and it's obvious it didn't pop into neutral. I have gotten use to shifting into 2nd gear and keeping it pushed until fully engaged. Kind of annoying and made me worry about the transmission. Any info? Both seem to be transmission related problems,but I have been scared to take it in to get checked because the cost of just the labor to check it. Of course it could be broken somewhere and covered by warranty which would be all good,but if they opened it up and checked it and found nothing... You have hours of labor to pay for and for nothing. Should I try a higher grade transmission oil? I feel like this isn't normal and could eventually lead to something more major going wrong.

Any help would be great![???:)]

Now, it's not entirely unusual, or even bad, to have to go into 2nd to put the car in 1st. It's just the synchros needing to be moved around a bit. You can get the same effect by putting it in neutral and pressing, then depressing the clutch. Don't just JAM it in. Now, the second problem, I suspect, is that you need to adjust your shift linkage. I'll try to find the procedure here on the site. If that doesn't work, you might have an actual problem.

I've had #1 happen to me, so it's probably not an isolated issue/problem.

An RMM upgrade should help 1 and 2 if you don't have one. It stiffens the back motor mount so it's not jiggling everywhere when you're doing crazy things. There are several posts related to options and opinions. Probably THE most common upgrade to do.

There have been other posts about the transmission woes. Not sure if there's an underlying issue that is TBD since these cars are still relatively new, but RMM definitely helps with shifting smoothness.

^This. When problem number one happens I just clutch out and back in and it's fine. My FoST is worse, sometimes I have to let it roll an inch or two.

Same problem but mine is engaging 3rd. I was going to get my adapter plate removed and see if it still did it then take it to the dealership and bring it to their attention. You guys think that's pointless since it seems to be a popular problem?

I've had it happen to every single manual transmission car I've owned, and I had it happen all the time when test driving cars when I was a mechanic. You can do one of the following to get it into first:

1. Shift into another gear and then first.
2. Leave it in neutral, release the clutch and press it again, then put it in first.
3. In the off chance the first two don't work, put it in second and let the clutch out just a tiny bit then press it again and shift into first.

It happens in the first place because the synchros aren't lined up and doing one of the three things above helps get them lined up. Do not jam it, though, that can cause damage.

For problem 2, as others said, it could be a poorly adjusted linkage or it it could be an internal issue. If your car is still under warranty I'd suggest taking it in for a look first rather than doing it yourself. This will get it on the books and if the problem worsens after your warranty expires it'll give you a leg to stand on for getting it fixed anyway. If you don't have a warranty anymore, then yeah, try that adjustment guide and see what happens.

Exact thing I'm doing. I'm getting my adapter plate removed, seeing if it still does it, and if it does taking it the dealership. I'm still under warranty.

Thanks for the info everyone. This is my first manual car so I didn't know if it was an actual serious problem!
I took mine to the dealership today and have an appointment to drop it off next Thursday and have them look more into it. I'll let you know if they find the/a problem and hopefully fix it.

8k rpm lmfao...!

I find that mine had that problem from brand new but in 3rd gear... Every now and then it would hit a dead stop half way from neutral to 3rd... It even does it parked up with engine off and going through the gears... Just randomly though. We went to the dealership to look at the (new at the time) 2017 fiesta st and I never had the key but it was a brand new blue one and tried the gearbox and it to did the same exact thing and I was left to wonder ever since. But I did spray some wd40 (crc 556) on the gear change rods where they connect to the gearchange linkage below the battery and suprisingly it actually reduced the problem a lot.. Very strange. Anyone else have that issue??

I have the 3rd gear problem too..! Find a cause??
