Possible extended warranty misunderstanding

So I just wanted to clarify since I think I am looking at this the wrong way..

With the highest level of the extended warranty, if you were to purchase a plan with say 100k mile coverage and your clutch wore out at 95k miles, would that be something the extended warranty would cover? From my research, unless I missed something, it covers just about everything on the car, even brakes. I just don't see how and why they warranty a wear item up to 150k miles on the warranty.

I was looking at the 125k warranty since in my experience clutches wear out around 110k miles and a/c systems around the same 110k-120k miles. That would pay for itself right there.. IF it covered it. And if you throw in brake pads/rotors then well its a no brainer. This cant be right though, can it?

I am still needing to take a test drive in a FiST and FoST to see which I like more, but I would most likely grab an extended warranty of some kind depending what it covered.

Thanks!

Wear items would not be covered. Brake pads are a wear item and would not be covered. if a caliper were to fail that would be covered and if it caused the pads to fail then they might get covered
but prorated based on other factors. The clutch itself is a wear item and will not be covered unless something went wrong with a non wear item that caused the clutch to fail.
your tires are a wear item and they are certainly not going to replace those every time they wear out unless there is a failed part of the mechanical assembly that may have caused the premature wear.
And you are ussually at the mercy of the stealership to honor that warranty. Also read the fine print, you might have to pay the a small deductable each time you bring it in once the manufacturers warranty is up

I am by no means an expert on these matters, this has been my experience with extended warranties in the past.

Clutches, brakes, tires, wipers, headlights... these are things that it is my understanding are "wear items" and outside of initial warranty period are not covered. I may be mistaken in your case but that has been my experience.
Before you buy a long-term service contract (often warranty is used to describe a service contract... they have important differences and you should know which you are buying), think about the wisdom of paying money up front for a service that will cost you a few hundred bucks in a few years. Why not take the same money and put it in a CD, money market, hell, even a savings account and let it grow a little? When the expense comes up, pay for it out of pocket and let the compounded interest keep growing. You have a new clutch and money! Also, most extended warranties only pay a prorated amount and require a deductible... so you may end up paying out of pocket at the time of service anyway.
Generally speaking, extended warranties and service contracts are written to be a profit center for the service provider, not a golden parachute for the purchaser.
Good luck whichever way you decide to go. Read the fine print before you write a check!

Yeah you can choose the deductible and duration of the warranty - at least you can online.

I just thought about the wear items and thought that would be absurd to have a worn clutch covered by any kind of warranty. A failed A/C system sounds more reasonable to me. But what you said did make sense.

If the dealer wont match what I can get for online, then ill just buy it online. But you do get the benefit of being able to get a loaner car if your car has to go in for repair. That ill have to get more info on too.

I wouldn't go for the prepaid maintenance but I would like some extra warranty for piece of mind.
