Recently, an automotive industry forecast report was published online (page 15). In regards to Ford, most outlets centered around news that the next-generation "S650" Mustang was moved up two years for a 2020 release.

That's not the important part.

Nestled in between news about the futures of the Ford Explorer and Ford Flex, there's a single sentence about the Fiesta:

"Rather than the next‐generation Fiesta, the C484 program will be a Small Car to replace the Fiesta at Cuautitlán."
That's it. Per the report, there will not be a next-gem Fiesta. In fact, it's replacement is even slated to be closer in size to C segment vehicles (as we also know that the next-gen Focus is due to be even longer and wider) rather than the current B segment (the current Fiesta is on the "B4" platform). The Fiesta's replacement, which we'll dub "C484" for now, will also be produced in Mexico.

So, that's it, the party is coming to an end. 35+ years of the Fiesta comes to a close. What's it's replacement? Will we see a revival of the Escort in the global market? The name does resonate positively in both Europe and America, after all.

It wouldn't make sense to call it an Escort as I thought that was replaced by the Focus? I think Ford is making a huge mistake with branding if they decide to replace the "Fiesta" name with something else, especially since its' a big seller in Europe.

True, but the current Taurus is far from it's original, too. So, it wouldn't be unprecedented (even though they're using the Escort name currently in India for an asia-only sedan). Ultimately, the Escort name is pure speculation on my part and wouldn't exactly fit in with Ford's penchant for "F" names for the cars (Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, etc.)

Ford is just shifting the manufacturing plant for Fiestas from Mexico to Thailand, which was reported a while back. The Fiesta is not going away.

That data is older. This is newer data. Note that it specifically states a "new small car". The Wards Auto article is three years old and states that consolidation would happen and the next-gen Fiesta would come in 2016, which is obviously wrong now.

The original plan, though if it were exported to America, it would come from Germany, not Thailand. The cars produced there are very specific to the Asian markets.

Efficiency gets higher, materials get lighter, oil gets cheaper...... cars get bigger.
Block is even racing a Focus now. Marketing is leading to larger, lighter, more efficient cars in the West.
Could be that the Fiesta has had her swan song.

If this news proves to be true.....call me crazy but it would make me seriously reconsider purchasing the RS I have an allocation for. The Fiesta is a special car and everytime I drive it it's difficult to imagine letting it go, even though the RS should be a great car. I really do prefer small cars.....even without this news I have doubts that I wanna trade this for the RS....so....am I crazy ????

I'm not going to get too upset one way or the other. We haven't got anything truly official to go off yet.

That's it!
But it will be a 5 door model.
With the same body lines and wheels.

In NA, perhaps the Fiesta will evolve into something with a lightly larger footprint, taller ride, and more "off-road" capability. Could be a viable option as Ford is seen as the most popular Truck/SUV manufacturer, and a move from a sub-compact car to sub-compact "SUV" would play perfectly into that image, complete Ford's SUV/Crossover line-up, allow factories to meet full capacity, and make profit on the recent popularity of lifted hatchbacks and wagons.

I'll leave these links here:(the first directly from Ford)

Fiesta production would probably still continue of course, but there is a chance we won't see it here though, similar to the 2016 Madza 2 and Madza CX-3 situation.
