Gearbox popping out of 2nd into neutral

So I have a dilemma... I've had second gear popped out a few times on track and only on one specific tight hairpin corner. Involves high speed braking from 150-160km/h to 60km/h, whenever I get back on the gas to exit the corner, the gear just pops out into neutral leaving me free revving. Any idea what's causing this? No problems on street or can't reproduce it in any other situations.

Transmission fluid has been changed at 20,000km and 50,000km. Car is currently 52,000km. One of the things I've noticed is that with engine running, gear in neutral and clutch out. You could push the lever into each gear a little bit like a little "play". All gears have the same amount of "play" except second. Second has the largest play (goes in the slot further than all the gears when clutched out). Does this mean anything?

I took out my Mountune quick shift adapter yesterday, same issue. The only thing I have left is the Boomba shift lever and their bushings. Doubtful that they'll affect anything.

Thanks for any feedback.

My car is actually in ford service as we speak for the same issue. My car will consistently pop out of 2nd gear when decelerating or switching from deceleration to acceleration in 2nd gear. My local dealer actually could not replicate the issue at first, but then on the last test drive it did it. I was told that it's a combination of the synchros/blocker rings/shift forks being damaged inside the transmission. I was told the only proper way to fix the problem in our case is a replacement transmission (as service parts for our gear box don't exist). My car is currently awaiting a replacement transmission to solve this problem.

I hope this helps you

That's not very reassuring now, especially when I only have 8 months warranty left and I can't replicate the issue unless I'm on track for that specific corner. I do expect the problem to get worse. But will it happen before my warranty is up is the question...

They covered it under warranty with all of your mods?

this seems to be common for those that have a boomba short shift bracket/lever. I have yet to hear of someone having this issue with a stock set up.

I did not know that, could you provide the reference thread?

there isn't one specific reference thread, just random complaints like this thread I've noticed where the common denominator is the boomba short shift lever.

loosing the ability to shift is dangerous and life threatening IMO. Here how one member addressed the issue before he went to the track.

It sounds like the play in gear and some extreme engine movement are combining to pop it out.

I was looking at the Boomba shifter arm and I don't really like how it changes the alignment of the cables going in to the shifter. Making the bracket that holds the shift cables point more directly at the ball joint on the lever might help. I have also read there is a cable adjustment procedure, that might be worth doing.

Finally, if you get a set of stiffer motor/transmission mounts, the engine won't move so much in that corner and you might stay in gear.

Sith Racing has just made a set of upper engine mount and transmission mount to go with the rear motor mounts already on the market.

If the alternative is a new transmission and you track it often, those mounts might make sense.

Hmm, now that I'm reading this and other threads, there's a number of guys running the short shift kits or the transmission plate adapters that are having this problem.

It almost appears like something is being slowely damaged over time internally in the transmission with cars that have these parts installed. I doubt it's the bushings right? It's got to be the short shift adapter or transmission plate doing it.

The short shifter won't damage anything unless it somehow restricts the movement of the shifter on the transmission end.

The way they work is by moving the cable attachment relative to the pivot point. The Boomba lever creates more cable movement per shift lever movement and on the transmission side the short shifters require less cable movement to engage a gear. Since the actual rotation of the shifter stays the same the effect of both is a shorter shift lever throw.

With that said, shift cables are not perfect and the brackets hold them at an angle that works for the stock ball joint locations, the short shifters create misalignment.

Add extreme engine movement with bad angles and a transmission side quick shifter that uses less shifter cable movement to go in and out of gears and something is going wrong.

Already did the cable adjustment and running Boomba RMM which is pretty stiff.

That is one of three mounts.

My engine moved enough to break my upper motor mount...
