Build the Fiesta ST or Mustang GT PP?

I'll post the same thing I did on the 6th Gen Mustang board

You have two cars, a 2015 Mustang GT Performance Pack and a Fiesta ST with the Recaros

The Fiesta ST is your daily driver, you spend 2-3 hours per day using it for commuting in the city.

The GT PP is a weekend car.

Which car do you start using for HPDE

Fiesta Pros
- more fun
- consumables are cheaper IE brakes, tires, gas

Fiesta Cons
- you need it for your daily driver
- will never be as fast as the GT PP on the track with equal modifications
- might get hot

Mustang Pros
- fast, looks good, sounds good
- more capable to go real fast at the track
- unlimited directions to go with modifications and power
- Driftable
- Will not be daily driving it for work

Mustang Cons
- Consumables IE tires, brake and gas are DOUBLE
- I would be sick if I wrecked it
- Heavy, less fun (I'm thinking, haven't tested it yet)

Which car would you build for the track?

If the FiST is a DD then build the GT for sure.
After writing this post that was the same conclusion that I came too, pretty simple.

But I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Thanks

It's really two completely different cars. Obviously if your only going to do one the answer is "not the daily." Depends on your track goals too. If your going to do twisties, Auto X, etc then the FiST is what you need and would want. If you want to live life 1/4 mile at a time, or do regular hot lap tracking then the Mustang is what you would want. They aren't really comparable at all in any way or class.

A Mustang would be fun on track but more expensive and people expect it to be fast.

If it were me, sell the GT and get another ST for the track, same color so when you want some extra heat on the street drive the race car.

You could also track the ST and buy a 1.0 for your daily, then transplant some ST parts on to it as you upgrade your ST for the track. That could make you a better momentum driver.

If you want a Mustang for the track, maybe look for a used American Iron car. Track prep isn't cheap so you will be cash ahead if you let someone else pay for it and you will be ready for AI events right away.

Our 2015 Mustang is much better in snow FWIW. So, if the FiST stays it's the track toy. Mustang's also is much more comfortable.

First off, don't race anything you can't afford to push off a cliff. Your insurance will likely laugh at any track related claim. Next, are you happy going slow and having fun, or do you have to be in front? That will answer your question.

Personally I'd say it also depends on your level of ability. The FiST would be more accessible and easier to drive fast due to its limited horsepower and better handling. Also cheaper to modify. If you are an experienced driver and are able to test the limits of he GT's power then that's a bit of a different story. I just think that if funds and experience are on he lower end, I would definitely go with the FiST. If you're Ken Block and have his pockets, F@ck it. Ball out with the Mustang.

I have built many cars for street/track and some track only cars up to a full race Vette, I like the ST more than all of them as very rewarding to make a little pocket rocket that can run with some pretty big dogs and embarrass quite a few of them but my car is very far from stock.

I would make the ST do it all and sell the Mustang, just not into big heavy cars:)
