What car would you trade your fist for? Must be less then 30k I'm really considering a c5z corvette it's always been one of my favorite cars. Also would consider a used 5.0. Other then that honestly I'll keep my fist for a long time. Not many cars are like the fist, good mpg, handles great, looks good, and it's dam cheap in prize. Which car is up to par with the fist? None of the new cars are.

Saw this cool article on jalopnik the other day. Said some dealers are discounting the shit out of 2015/2016 mustang GT's. Went on auto trader and found 3 in my area all for 30-32k. I know you said under 30k but that's a good deal.

I would probably trade my car for an evo 8/9, Used 5.0

Not really a vw or BMW guy so I wouldn't consider any of those cars. Maybe a truck, raptor to be specific but they hold their value. Doubt you can get one for 30k yet

I owned an '02 C5 Z06, amazing car with amazingly cheap feeling interior. For its purpose, as a turnkey racecar, it was outstanding. Just over 3k #s in weight due to deleted sound deadener and other comfort items, oil cooler, larger radiator, titanium exhaust, etc made for a trackday car you could beat on all day long with no worries. I had done long tube headers, intake, and tune, and could easily hand most people their arses either at a red light or a mountain road. Highly recommend it if you have the means.

For $30k or less I would have many possible cars on my list. Used Caymans or Boxters are good, CLK63s are now in that price range, earlier Jaguar XK-Rs, or even low mileage BMW 135s fit your budget. So many toys, so little garage space...

I love the caymans it just suck to work on them.. In honestly seriously in the hunt for a yellow c5z. If I can find a decent one I will consider trading in my fist as much I would like to keep it. Just not enough room to keep both. If I can't find one I have no problem keeping my fist. Maybe kona blue s197 5.0!will grab my attention.

Wonder if I could get into a 2017 Miata RF (retractable fastback) for under $30K? I don't think I'd have enough cash left over to do the suspension work that I think it'll need to get rid of that body roll. Hoping to keep the FiST and be able to buy a used RF as a weekend toy in around 5 years.

I agree with 2Cool. I too have a vette, not a C5Z but I have a 2000 FRC(fixed roof coupe) vette which is the predecessor to the Z06(same coupe body but without the LS6 motor. I have a bunch of things done to the car. but honestly I RARELY drive it. it gets decent gas mileage a big trunk incredibly light, extremely fast. And will probably always remain my race car, no offense to any 5.0GT's but with VERY little motor work done to the vette it makes the GT's look silly in any department. (looks will be opinionated((is that a word!?lol)) My friend has a 5.0 and gets TERRIBLE gas mileage in the city, somewhere around 14-15. My vette around 19. on the highway my vette gets 30 my friends GT gets 25. granted the GT has four seats. after driving both and racing both on the track I would never get a new 5.0 over my Vette. I would say though, the C5 vette (non FRC or Z06) I would never consider either. and just as 2cool also said, the interior is cheap and outdated but I mean hell its 16 years old.

If I had to trade my FiST in it would be for a FoRS, GT350R, Ecoboost Raptor, Z28 Camaro, or C6/C7 Z06/ZR1. so to answer your question, for anything under 30k. I wouldn't bother unless you found a good C5 Z06. you can also pick up some C6 vettes for around that price as well, if you can find one with the LS3 I think its 08 maybe 09 or newer, you will have a bad Little Vette on your hands.

Say what you will about 5.0 Mustangs...but I had so much fun in mine and miss it every day. I also had a ton of fun in my past Z06s...if you need back seats, get the Mustang. If you can deal with having a 2 seater and an older interior, C5Z is just amazing.

There a new GT350(non R) in the parking lot at work. The flat plane crank sounds amazing.

Mine was silver with the red and black sport interior. Red is also an awesome color on the Z's. Keep in mind that in '01 they bumped the power up a bit and fixed the oil seepage the earlier LS6s had around the rear crank journal due to porous castings.

MS67 I am in no way knocking the 5.0, it is a great car. I am only expressing my opinion that I would never pick a 5.0 over a C5 Z06... Unless it was my ONLY car and I needed the extra seating.

BMW E46 M3 or a VW MkIV R32. I've owned an R32 and adored it. Still only day dream of an E46

That was '02...valve springs were also upgraded which was a common issue in '01s. I had two 01s and never had a problem with either.

I hear ya. The C5 chassis is outstanding and simply cannot be beat for the money. And LSx potential is just mind blowing. But, the Coyotes are impressive too. Only thing I didn't like about mine was the weight, and factory suspension left a lot to be desired. The engine is the best part about the car for sure. The C5Zs I've had stood up to a TON of abuse...the Mustang's transmission did not last long at all, even with bolt ons...just food for thought.

Nice car. Looks like he's addressed all the downfalls...make sure to check the clutch fluid (look up "ranger method" for info on this). Yellow generally doesn't help resale value but if you can get that car for under 20k, you'd be in good shape.

Ah, you can tell I have been out of the C5 world for a few years, my mind is going. The later LS6 springs were a cheap upgrade for normal LS1 heads, along with the cam, though it was so relatively mild it wasn't really worth the trouble of the swap. I have done exactly one cam swap on a C5... having to remove the steering rack as one of your first steps kind of killed all enjoyment. Headers weren't too hard though, at least with the Stainless Works ones I installed.

I don't know why, because as far as driving dynamics the FiST almost always comes out ahead in reviews, but I'd strongly consider getting into a Cooper S.
