Crazy Issue

Hello everyone,

I bought my Cyborg turbo a few months ago. Got all the works on it. Real TIAL 38mm External waste gate. Heat wrap, turbo blanket, Ported manifold all the goodies. I was so excited to get this thing on and working right. Had it installed by a very bad ass shop. Got it tuned by same shop and got the car back. Has a weird issue. The general consensus is it is a Miss fire. After days of looking into the issue via tuning, and swapping the coils and plugs multiple times, the issue cannot be found or pin pointed. So the Cyborg is being pulled off and I just wasted a ton of money in labor since the issue cannot be found and to do any more testing it is going to cost more money which I do not have. I am closing on my house next week, and all my spare money went to that. Sooo the car is going back to stock turbo at the cost of labor as well. I will be selling the cyborg set up once it is off. I will post a new thread up. it will also include the DHM dump tube that was made by Russell just for the cyborg. The whole set up cost me around $2400, if anyone is interested PM. and we will talk. THIS IS NOT A FOR SALE THREAD. I know the rules, I just wanted to put my issue out there, and see if anyone can suggest something before I have to pay to put it back stock and lose out on even more.

Thanks for the help!

Do you have any datalogs you can post or any type of description of symptoms?

I have the data logs on my AP. I can posted later when I figure out how to use datazip.

Anything over 17 psi of boost and boost breaks up, up top. Literally feels like jerking. It feels like it is cutting in and out under load up top. I will try to post a data log I took on lower boost later tonight.

OK. I'm no expert, but I'd like to think that with the wealth of knowledge we have on this forum, you'll be able to find some kind of answers. Curious to see some logs whenever you post them.

To be 100% honest. I am not sure. The shop who installed it never mentioned anything about that. And shot down every theory I had about hardware being wrong. I can always ask them to see if they checked it.

thanks for that!

I know what you're talking about... It's combustion instability. Does this shop specialize in the Fiesta? If not, you wasted your money on their tuning services.

The shop definitely specializes in tuning. So you think it has to do with the tuning side of things? What do you think needs to be done? or why do you think that is the issue?

I experienced this with the Cyborg, as well as Sourskittle. It's in the tune mostly. Sour can tell you more I think.

Really?

Well this shop spent over 10 hours trying to fix it in the tune and took about 60 plus data logs, could not figure it out. Still says its a miss fire and says my injectors may be the cause.
Hmmmm.. I will text Sourskittle and see what he thinks.

thanks for the input on the Hijinx, you might have just saved me a lot of trouble and money.

What we experienced was cleared up 100% with the colder plugs. I tell everyone to get a set from tune+ now. But we were seeing that issue at 25-26-27psi, not 20psi.

If you need an injectors or fuel pump or what ever you want, I'll send you a spare for free ( well, shipping ).

And like I mentioned, if
You send me the turbo, I'll install it on my own personal car double triple make sure its not a turbo issue, which would be pretty crazy. Turbo's typically make boost or don't make boost. A low boost mis-fire is a combustion/ignition issue. Or tuning.

Hey no worries SS. I am going to re gap my plugs, if there really at .21 like stated on my invoice i suspect that might be some of the issue. I bought 1 step colder plugs to go with the cyborg turbo and from what I was told 3 sets were tried with no luck. It's a weird one for sure. I'm gonna re gap my plugs and possibly try another tune just to see if it helps or not. All this info and everything points to the tune and plugs, if it doesn't work out. It's just my luck. Someone else will get a heavily discounted cyborg that is all.

I am sure nothing is wrong with the turbo or anything. I appreciate you being so awesome and willing to send me parts. I'll keep you updated.

Have you been able to figure out how to utilize http://datazap.me ?

When you are datalogging on the Cobb access port, what are all of the parameters that you have checked for it to log?

I'm not knowledgeable enough to correctly read your datalog, but my humble opinion is that something is off related to your timing. I suggest contacting a reputable e-tuner (I recommend Tune+) and that you start the tuning process over from scratch.

The e-tuner will tell you what to record via the AP for your datalogs, and you will be asked to upload a base tune file. Then you will record two to three WOT "wide open throttle" 2500 rpm to 6500 rpm (or wherever you are comfortable stopping) 3rd gear pulls on a safe, smooth, and flat road surface. Obviously you will be going very fast in 3rd gear by the time you reach 6500 rpms, and safely slow the vehicle before stopping the log, which won't negatively effect the reading.

You will then download those datalogs from your Cobb AP on to your desktop (clearly label each with your name, the tune revision that you have logged, and I like to also include the date of the log), and you will email these back to your tuner. Thy will create a revision and email it back for you to upload to your car so that you can repeat this process until they tell you that you are good.

Oh yeah. I already am in the works. I have new spark plugs on the way, mine looked pretty shot, and they were gapped at .21 I was re gapping last night, and broke the tip on 2 of them on accident. I have a new tuner I am working with as well. We will see how it goes.
