Why do so many hate hill start assist?

Not sure what it is. The only two steep hills where it usually seems to engage when I commute (too much rain to ride the motorcycle), have had green lights so I haven't needed to stop on them. But I'll check further into it. It's fairly rare and only a slight hold which is not really a big deal for me but if there is some way to get it to feel normal I'm for it.
