Installed Radar Detector Questions

Hey folks, I just got picked up an Escort 9500ci, and wondering if anyone else has a similar set up installed. If so, where did you mount the radar head?

Not a lot of flat surface on the front of our cars to tuck it behind. The part in front of the frame horn has quite a curve to it, and I'm concerned it will effect the performance of it, since Escort recommends it being behind a flat surface, or exposed to the road.

There is a decent spot to put the laser shifters right near the crash sensors, it's mostly just the radar head I'm thinking about. And perhaps I'm overthinking it.

I have mine suctioncupped right in front of my rearview mirror. I have the 9500 as well. Works great and picks up all signals

I'm talking the hardwire version. I'm not going to stealth install everything and then leave the radar head on my front window. And yes, it's legal here, I just don't want it visible. It's meant to be mounted on the leading edge of the car, Escort just advises that it not go behind a curved surface because it can effect the signal. And a mesh is supposedly worse.

Sorry "installed" version. And since there doesn't seem to be much chatter about it, I'll post a pic when I figure out a good spot for it.

Ahh I see what you're talking about now. That thing is crazy! Sorry if its personal but how did you justify the cost of that detector over the other ones?

I figured by hardwired you meant the hardwired cable you run through the pillar so you don't use the adapter.

Negative. That part is a non issue.

No worries, I came into it for a really really good price, otherwise I wouldn't have one at all. I speed but I don't drive like a yahoo, it was just a really good and legit deal so I jumped on it. This is my first detector and as usual for me, I kinda jumped in the deep end. I know when I started looking at prices for them new, I choked. So I know what you mean.

I've been looking at installs on other vehicles with similar front facias and I think the curve in front of our bumper horn shouldn't be too much of an issue. Unless I find a much better spot when I go to install, that's where it will go.

Good luck that will be interesting content.

My detector has saved me from more tickets then I can count. Most of the time they are saving you from the 10mph over the speed limit tickets. They are so awesome for day to day use.

I used a blend mount and attached it to an aftermarket rear view mirror stem. This rear view mirror has homelink garage door opener. You need one always on circuit and one switched circuit and a ground. Only a switched and ground for the escort radar detector. I got everything on Amazon, including two fuse taps

Still have to tidy up the wiring a bit.

There is a small reinforcing plastic behind the bumper skin, I trimmed it to allow an unobstructed view to the bumper skin. Seems to have more than adequate reception.

The reason you want a radar detector mounted up high is to receive signals from behind the vehicle. Mounting the detector in the engine compartment makes rear detection much harder, if not impossible.

This is the preferred location for this installation. This head does not go in the windshield. Clearly you're unfamiliar with installed radar setups. It picked up a ka band 3 minutes ahead of me coming towards me at 80mph. I'm pretty sure it's good. They detect rear shots by reflections off objects in front of your car anyway.
