That's true... I'll give it a shot
I believe that essentially all APIMs are NAV? It is a matter of enabling the feature - for that you need FORSCAN software and a BT or USB device to talk to the car (and a GPS antenna if you are upgrading from Sync 2 to Sync 3). Plus, a map card.
So - to that end, if I am correct, all APIMs are "the same". I don't have the linky handy, but if you search the forum(s), you should find a ton of info on that. I am planning on using FORSCAN to have the rear-view camera installed (again, all of this is just dormant and needs switching of codes).

Also, I have seen links to the non-NAV Zips on the forum as well (I recall that it directed to other Ford model forums - but the files are the same for a number of models/years)

Went with that, still no luck. GN went away but still "Voice recognition not ready"...
SUCCESS!!

Finally I got the voice commands working! SO here's a summary of my case:

At first, the car came with 1.0 and I was told by Ford to upgrade to 2.3... big mistake. Upgrade went fine, no errors but Voice Control was gone, when pressed the button on the steering wheel, it showed the message "Voice control not ready". Dammit.

Then I came here, did a LOT of reading, researching, learning and asking, and finally came out with this:

1. Installed 2.2, in three steps:
Step 1:
Code:
; Gen 3 - Assembly Update - NonNav/NEU - 17011
[SYNCGen3.0_2.2.17011_PRODUCT]
Item1 = HB5T-14G386-TBB
Open1 = SyncMyRideHB5T-14G386-TBB.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall

[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
Item1 = HN1T-14G381-SA
Open1 = SyncMyRideHN1T-14G381-SA.tar.gz
Item2 = GB5T-14G386-AA
Open2 = SyncMyRideGB5T-14G386-AA.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall,Delay,Include,Transaction
Step 2:

Code:
; Gen 3 - Assembly Update - NonNav/NEU - 17011
[SYNCGen3.0_2.2.17011_PRODUCT]
Item1 = HB5T-14G386-TBB
Open1 = SyncMyRideHB5T-14G386-TBB.tar.gz
Item2 = GB5T-14G386-SB
Open2 = SyncMyRideGB5T-14G386-SB.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall

[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
Item1 = HN1T-14G391-BC
Open1 = SyncMyRideHN1T-14G391-BC.tar.gz
Item2 = GB5T-14G386-AA
Open2 = SyncMyRideGB5T-14G386-AA.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall,Delay,Include,Transaction
Step 3:
Code:
; SYNC3 2.3.10 NonNav install GN

[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
Item1 = HN1T-14G423-CA
Open1 = SyncMyRide\HN1T-14G423-CA.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall,Delay,Include
At this point, I had 2.2 fully functional, including Voice Control (yay!), but I wanted my system fully up-to-date, so I went ahead and installed 2.3, but with a little modification:

Step 1:
Code:
; SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 2.3.10 - Only for MY 16 NonNav/NonEU assemblies.

[SYNCGen3.0_2.3.17109_PRODUCT]
Item1 = HB5T-14G386-TBB
Open1 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-TBB.tar.gz
Item2 = HB5T-14G386-AHH
Open2 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-AHH.tar.gz
Item3 = GB5T-14G386-SC
Open3 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-SC.tar.gz
Item4 = JL7T-14G391-BB
Open4 = SyncMyRide\JL7T-14G391-BB.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall

; 2nd half

[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
Item1 = HB5T-14G387-AAB
Open1 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G387-AAB.tar.gz
Item2 = JL1T-14G381-AJ
Open2 = SyncMyRide\JL1T-14G381-AJ.tar.gz
Item3 = GB5T-14G386-AA
Open3 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-AA.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall,Delay,Include,Transaction
Step 2:
Code:
; SYNC3 2.3.10 NonNav install GN

[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
Item2 = JL7T-14G423-BA
Open2 = SyncMyRide\JL7T-14G423-BA.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall,Delay,Include
As you cansee, I installed everything except GN on the first step, ang GN by separated on the 2nd step. By doing this, I was trying to avoid the dreaded MEM_ERR03 error, so I wouldn't have to start all over again. In the end, I have now fully functional Sync 3 v2.3, including Voice Control.

On a conclusion note, I would like to think that my error was trying to update from 1.0 to 2.3 in one step. I had to go from 1.0 go 2.2 to 2.3, but since Ford sent me the 2.3 zip file, I thougt it was safe to do as the manufacturer says... well, wasn't on this case.

HUGE thanks to Acool, from www.f150forum.com, this guy helped me a lot, couldn't have done it without his guidance.

DISCLAIMER: This process worked for me, and may not necessarily work for everyone, so try at your own risk!

Here's proof!

In my case, I upgraded directly from 1.0 to 2.3 with no issues. I say that, but I get an error about the USB hub (it does not like my SYNC 2.0 hub, apparently) - but it works fine, if not a bit slow when loading AA. Also, I think that in the 1.0 SYNC 3, the mobile apps sort of worked - intermittently, it was either Glympse or Spotify icon on the screen, but now - nothing, and it can't pull these from the paired phone for some reason. But, I am happy with the AA functionality, which was the whole purpose of upgrading.

Yea, with 1.0 sometimes I got Spotify to work, and tried really hard on Sygic to work for maps with no luck, but now with 2.3 they definitely don't work. I guess that 2.3 is designed to work with Android Auto / Apple Car Play for the apps, so not much attention was given to the Mobile Apps part.
