How long do your tires last?

Rotate your tires at 3,000 mile intervals.
OEM RE050A last me about 8,000 miles. Hankook RS3 lasted me 7,000 miles. ZII star specs lasted me 14,000 miles. RE71R lasted me 9,000 miles (two sets were the same mileage)

It all really depends on your driving, how fast the car can carry speed, how fast you brake, if you trail brake, how fast you accelerate, wheel spin, how much power/torque the car has and how sideways you get.
That's surprisingly low for RS3s. Did you track them more than the others?

Anyone know what re071 tires are? I’m not a hipster so this escapes me. Thank you

It's a type of tire. Popular for those that track and/or drive too fast.BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RE-71R

Sorry no I meant RE050A which are the stock summer only tires that are offered from the factory on our cars. Thanks for the catch.

I got about 20k miles out of the re071 tires. About half were straight up highway, the other half spirited street and backroad hoonage. No drag pulls but a few, clutch conscous launches. Thinking back now the tires had a lot of feedback that helped me learn the car. They definitely slipped when cornering hard relative to the Indy 500s which I would guess led to their accelerated wear. Would I have done 80% highway they probably could have lasted 30k. Which I would guess would defy the 140 rating. Overall I think they’re kind of pricey but are rated conservatively - when fitted and used on an otherwise stock car.
So you're liking the Indy's better than the stock tires? I don't have the stock tires but I've driven a stock FiST off the lot and it turned well. Couldn't exactly mash it on the test drive though. Still funny seeing OEM 140 treadwear rating same as RSRs which I would consider 'race' tires.

I brought up treadlife at a local shop and the guy laughed. Said the reason everyone runs Federal RSRs and similar is because they are sticky and cheap. Also said my tires look like I "have fun" with the car and no tire is going to last me long (sad face)

Yes. The 50As are not race tires. Nor are the Indy 500s.

At $85 a pop they are a compelling argument tho. Mine lasted 15k in Louisville this summer and there are still 5k miles left on a 4 piece set that had been rotated twice already. Currently on Michelin premier A/S. It's 5 degrees Celsius here. The 500s are great in tbe summer, especially when pushed hard on summer tarmak. I have done 15k and have 5k summer miles still left on the Indies. Excited to get them out in April.

No they had the same amount of track time. I had to rotate them every 2 30min sessions on track as the fronts would get eaten up pretty quickly compared to the other tires. Although those were the first tires I used when taking the fiesta out on track so there may have been more understeer induced from the driver versus the other tires with more track time in the car.

I'm looking hard at the Federal 595 Evo in 215/40-17 for my next tires.

I ran those last year, they are too wide for stock rims IMO. You end up with a lot of tire roll due to how wide the section and tread width are, I measured them close to 223mm. I would buy them in the 205/40R17 size as they come out to be 215s in the end. You also end up with a little bit better rim protection than stock.

Right now I am running the 595 SS in 205/40R17 and they have good protection due to the curb flange and just feel more responsive than the EVOs I ran last year. They seem handle rain much better, it took very little standing water to make the EVOs hydroplane and the 595SS just don't seem to care.

This is good to know. I was considering the EVOs over the 595 ss since they are marketed as using 'noise reduction technology' as I don't want tires that are horribly loud. But if they don't perform as well then what's the point?

I'd run the 215/40 federals on rota Titans 17x7.5 et40 if I go that route.

Torn between those and 205/50s on 16x7 et38 slipstreams. Definitely more tire options in this size.

I didn't run both tires back to back but my SSs are quieter than my Falken Ziexs that I just came off of. Those in turn were louder than my Evos so I would say they are pretty close overall, I still get more wind noise. They are loud in the rain though as its my assumption that the water is getting ejected into the fender wells at a higher volume due to tread pattern.

Running 17.5s you should be fine with 215s in either tire then, that extra half inch would likely help a LOT.

I look forward to getting these out to autocross and can report back later about lifespan but I don't see it being very good for me. My Evos got maybe 8-10k with 3 autox events and the last set of Zeixs did about the same with no events. I drive 60 miles of canyons a day so its just not worth it to put a more expensive tire on here that I am going to burn through. Maybe that will change if I rotate more often though.

EDIT:
So they are kind of loud when turning, but only with the windows down and the music off. In a straight line you can't really hear them over the wind, and with the addition of a foam intake filter the turbo will drown out the noise. They also did change these tires some in the last few years so maybe that is where the reports of loud tires came from.

20K on RE050A stock tires. Lots of wear left. Love the tires in the twisties. Don't need A/S in the South! Will replace them with the same I think when the time come. Sad, I get Goodyears free....but none I want!

update: 30K and going strong. Pothole ate 1 tire and wheel. So I have one brand new tire. Kind of seals the deal on getting OEM replacements soon as I will only need 3 tires. I like these tire....an excellent mix of wet and dry performance. And if you don't race or autocross last a decent time. One of the secrets to long tire and brake life is in daily driving do not be a LBS....late braking specialist. Braking hard does more wear than milage, slow down long before the light/stop sign by coasting or light braking same with hard acceleration. Difficult to do with our cars but with age the thrill of hauling ass between lights is gone! I get mine on the TOTD and other E. TN backroads. My brakes and tires usually last much longer than average.

I wore a set of the stock Potenza's down to the wear bars over the course of a few weeks. This was 3 track events, 35 autocross runs, general hooning, and a driver's school. My Yokohama S-drives in P215/40 17 lasted 4 summers before becoming hard as a rock, yet still had a decent amount of tread left. That was mostly all highway and city driving with 2 autocrosses. My General winter tires are on their 4th winter and look brand new. Mileage varies greatly depending on what you are doing with the car. I used to wear out a set of summer tires every summer with my Focus. I would do a few track events and autocrosses a month, plus driving like a typical 20 year old. Now I do one autocross a year and just back and forth to work. Tires last a lot longer!
