Fortunately I had an eleven foot pole.

Dave
I think that a REAL AWD system, in a SWB, 2 occupant door, light as they could build it (none of this 4 door 'Countryman' BS! [nono]), high powered, JCW version would be a super sweet ride.

But I still would never buy one myself unless it was under $25K. ;)

Well you can stil order it rigt now. How much longer remains to be seen. Will they stop ordering before the end fo the window for the year which is the end of sept. Or stop orders after the June build run.
They will probably stop production once they run out of all of the not designated for repair stock, parts. ;)

Exactly I don't care what the car company is if they bring jobs here that's all that matters. I don't care about tax breaks and, blah blah blah I care about one thing American jobs. If Honda, Nissan, BMW and Toyota decide to create more American jobs then domestic companies then they are more American to me regardless of where the headquarters is. I'll keep my Fiesta ST till it is dead, and yes I know it was made in Mexico.

For a long time, companies were simply chasing after cheaper labor. Lately it has been all about the logistics. Companies locate their facilities where the product's largest market is at hand. BIG vehicles are being manufactured here. (at least until another economic hiccup) The mid-sized and smaller vehicles are headed to China; in large part due to their emerging "middle" class wage earners.

Where I live we were in a running for a Toyota and Mazda joint venture to build Electric vehicles, unfortunately we lost that to Alabama.

Best to bet on a short model year. Ford killed 03 zx2 escort production in late may of 03. I've never seen a zx2 with a build date past may of 03.

Probably so. If anyone on the forum has access to or knows a sales person at a dealership. It would be nice to post up the deadline for ordering ASAP when its announced to dealers.

I wouldn't be surprised if AL is literally paying them to locate there. It's not as if they have the best public education system or infrastructure.

Toyota already had a plant there, also Mercedes, Honda and Hyundai as well. People in the Southeast love to work and are willing to do it without expecting $30 an hour to tighten a tire with a robot like people in Detroit. With the cost of living down here if you are offered a $40,000 a year and up job with great benefits people going to flock to you like crazy.

Ya, that S.O.B. Nick Saban had something to do with that, screwing the good folks of N.C. so his players can have a job after missing class for 5 years.

Tip. Don't expect your dentist to perform a prostate exam on you just because your insurance policy states you have full coverage.

I've heard they pay 12 to 15 an hour and people under old contracts $20 .

You guys need to consider that the cost of living is lower in many cases. And also, alot of dues and fees come out of the union scale before it hits the pocket of the person earning it.
The labor turnover was so high at the Mexican plant that built the original Dodge Durango that they set a minimum requirement of an associates degree from college to qualify to apply for a job on the line!

EXACTLY, HOW can the foreign nameplates possibly lo$e?!?!

The other MAJOR point that everyone forgets in their abject PRAISE of the invaders, and dissing HATRED of the domestic manufacturers is the TOTAL and COMPLETE lack of ANY 'legacy costs' (UAW pensions, benefits, etc.) they have to bear, UNLIKE all of the domestic Big 3, which adds to the infinite WIN of these foreign nameplates.
There is NO WAY for the domestic nameplates to compete with this scenario, especially when it comes to tiny, (and very low profit to begin with) CARS.

NO EFFING WONDER why they make damn well SURE that they locate their transplants into areas which are STAUNCHLY, and right-wingedly, ANTI-UNION BY LAW as possible, so there is not even a slight chance of future 'organization'.

The domestic nameplate manufacturers are BOUND to these contracts and legacy costs, EVERYWHERE in THIS country, so no wonder they flee to over our borders, and overseas for manufacturing.

Let's us not let THIS site become like the extremist 'group-think' BS mandated on bobistheoilguy.com, OK? (Since THIS is actually one of the best sites I've ever even heard of concerning this type of thing, in these galaxy-width worldview divided times, currently.)
Even though you solely mentioned DETROIT as a comparison, the implication is that ONLY those in deep 'RED' Dixie like to, and are willing to do any "work", and no one from anywhere else is at all.
This is BEFORE we even get to the racial implications your comment could be taken to suggest.

I am NOT going to leave THIS site because of (a majority of) those on here who cannot stand MY (in the minority of the members) worldviews, like I have had to do on bobistheoilguy, since I could not take their hard core FASCIST biases anymore. [nono]

Dude really you're the one that is constantly attacking Japanese companies saying all sorts of crazy stuff all day long. I'm just simply stating facts that foreign companies have helped out the southeast a lot in terms of jobs. Racial really you are going to say that the southeast is like the most diverse part of the country. I would know I've traveled like the entire United States. The Southeast is simply more business-friendly we have less taxes, less regulations, and a large Workforce who wants to make more than $15 an hour because jobs just don't pay that well down here. We also have a lot of community colleges to train people.
