Mobil 1 Full Synthetic - How Long Between Oil Changes?

On my 2014 Ford Fiesta ST I have always used Mobil 1 full synthetic motor oil. I have read where people recommend 7,500 to 10,000 miles between oil changes when using a full synthetic motor oil.

My issue is that I don't put very many miles on my 2014 Ford Fiesta ST. Last year I put only 3,000 miles on my Fiesta ST. Is there a time limit as well as a mileage limit between oil changes for my Fiesta ST when using Mobil 1 full synthetic motor oil?

I am nowhere near the mileage limit for an oil change, however it has been 13 months since my last oil change so I wonder if I should have the oil changed even though I have only driven my Fiesta ST around 3,000 miles since the last oil change.

This. I personally go 5k miles/6 months, but for you I'd stick to once a year. You could make it you FiSTs birthday present.

I agree, do it once a year. An oil change is the cheapest thing you can do to protect the car. I also use Mobil 1 and do low mileage, maybe 5K a year, so I do it once a year.
It's also what Ford recommends, every 10K miles but no more than a year between oil changes.

change it every 3 months. oil viscosity breaks DOWN as it sits in the engine. do not EVER wait a full year to change your oil, that is a turbo car. the oil runs through the turbo....

I change my oil every time I FILL the tank with gas. This is a turbo CAR and oil changes should not BE neglected.

Good oil does not break down in 3 months. Run the test you will see for yourself.

as cheap as oil is, you NEVER want to wait that long. these engines are TURBO charged. that turbo rails that oil with extreme heat. as cheap and simple an oil change is DO not neglect something so intricate to your car's life.

maybe 6 months TOPS.

if you sell oil you would like everyone to believe 3 months or 3,000 mi. you would be rich in no time. truth is dino oil is junk if the oil temp go's above 265 degrees. 1 day old or 365 days old. oil can sit in a can for decades unharmed. the sg oil 10 years ago is better than the new dino oil of now, why additives are gone ''EPA''. so why change your oil if it sit's? if it sits in your garage you don't, if it sits outside in cold Co. yes moisture every day will delude your oil, if you start the motor and get the oil up to over 212 degrees the moisture will turn to steam and will be gone, good oil again, people do it every day in cold weather. syn oil does the same thing but it can get alot hotter than the engine can. turbos? they've been in diesel trucks for longer than most of the readers here, most guys use delo, rotella others and most are dinosaur oils like our gas is dino gas too. the biggest problem with modern engines oil is the EGR puts your exhaust gasses back into the engine and that is lots of bad stuff acids and other stuff. if the oil appears clean it is, if its dirty, its time for a change. just quit giving that oil guy all your money every 3k mi.

Fully synthetic oil preserves its molecular integrity over time, unlike conventional oil. Stability is synthetic's strongest suit. It does not necessarily mean you should go extended periods between oil changes. At the end of the day, it all depends on how you drive your vehicle.

Do you do a lot of highway driving...? Track days...? City driving...?

For a N/A engine, 5,000 to 7,500 miles is a decent range for when you should change your oil.

For a turbocharged engine, guess what? the oil goes through a lot more punishment, therefore it should be changed between 3,000 and 5,000 miles. That's fair, right?

If you don't put a lot of miles on your car, then once a year should be fine. The problem is the inevitability of condensation build-up in the oil pan and how the oil may affect seals and gaskets if the oil is not exactly new/fresh.

We change the oil primarily because it gets dirty rather than break down. Whether it's mineral, min/syn, syn/min or full synthetic, it still gets dirty. When the oil becomes saturated with dirt, that dirt starts to deposit in your engine. That suspended dirt is also abrasive; accelerates wear.

Bottom line, check it's progression from clean to filthy. In my own experiences, there will be some change cycles where it gets dirty pretty fast, others where it stays clean for quite awhile.

3k was a good change about 10 years ago. Oil has come along way. It should be double that now. And if ur oil is breaking down before that, change your filter

Your filter doesn't really help with break down. But it helps very much with keeping your oil clean. Imo changing your filter every 3-5k miles is a great idea. Using good oil like Mobil 1 EP or amsoil you can run for 10k and change you motorcraft filter every 3-5k miles. If you run a amsoil filter you can use it for 10k miles

Don't be so hard on Dino oil, it will not break down in the normal oil change intervals due to normal engine heat. If will break down faster than syn but no so fast it will affect anything in a normal oil change interval. My BMW went over 300K on dino oils and was burning no oil when I let it go. Remember our ST's came with a dino blend and a blend is recommended and sold by Ford. So I don't think the maker of our engine is recommending a sub par dino oil do you? They have no problems with dino oil out to 10k miles. Racing and High Performance engines auto/air/marine worked fine for 80 years before synthetic. Synthetic oils are just another incremental advance in lubrication, turbo chargers are not a new invention. My first was 1979 and my brother had one in 1964. I had several more before synthetic oil was produced and turbo's were in use for 40 years before we got one in a car. What synthetic oil does is to extend the oil change intervals by breaking down slower. Synthetic still starts from dino's! BTW, I would not use Mobil 1 anyway because I want Titanium in my oil. I use Motorcraft or Kendall full syn and change at 4K miles. My money, my choice, I am sure I could easily do 10K but why?

I ran Amsoil signature series for 8,000 miles or 10 months. Still had a TBN of 3.4. I mostly drive city and idled a lot.

Kidding....wish I could say the same ...being a Technician and practiced for a decade+...I learned real quick to not take my work home with me and to come up with clever names for being a mechanic or Auto technician when I asked what I did for a living....Like Fecal matter fixer.....Warranty specialist...neither of those would get past what is that 9/10 times. The fecal matter fixer was always Ironic...Working for Chrysler LLC.....

Yep I worked at a shop for a bit, I left because it made me hate cars. When I was in school for it, I enjoyed it quite a bit.
