I know this is an older thread but I though I would add some recently found information.
Just an FYI Picked up a FL-910s and FL-400s today from the dealer. The FL-910 was about $13 and the FL-400 was about $10 (canadian). Bigger and cheaper ?!? What was weird is is the parts guy stated the FL-900 has better filtering (finer particles)... Now I have never been led astray with this dealership so I have to wonder if there is some publication on the filter medium. So I decided to scour the internet and found this:

In theory the 910 will filter down to 35 micron efficiently 50% of the time where the the 400 will filter to 25 micron with 80% of the time. And look at the bypass pressure, the 910 is lower than the 400, meaning in theory more oil could flow around the media if the pressure exceed the bypass valve rating. Not sure what the oil pressure in the FiST is but the 910 is the stock one.
So is the 400 worse? Well not based on the numbers I found (if they are correct). Is the 910 a lower/bad quality filter, very unlikely. So I can save some bucks and use the FL-400S. I may chat with the parts guy tomorrow as the Edge is in for some warranty work.
I know this is trivial but fun to figure out.
