STI....I had an 07 Forester XT with $30k in bolt ons, drivetrain, suspension, brakes, etc....it would hit 128MPH easily then just stop pulling halfway down the 7/8th mile front strait at MMP. I had enough time left per lap to think about what to do next, $15-20K into the engine and still be a ticking time bomb or get something else. Having a $90K Forester did not make much sense, I parted and sold it off and bought a full race C5 Z06 instead.
I would never buy an STI, Evo maybe....

Are most of the failures on the FiST or FoST piston related or are some bent rods from making big torque in tall gears?
It seems more so to be pistons, perhaps Ford will spend a few more bucks on forged ones in the future builds as it would not really cost them that much, wishful thinking for new owners at best.....

Here is how I decide what to do on my cars, F' the warranty and do as I please and pay for whatever happens, much less stress that way
Used engines with low miles are available and cheap, buy a spare to keep on hand, which I want to do but no place to store it in the RV and could need it when on the wrong side of the country.
Or, buy one, take it apart, upgrade known weak parts, install it and keep the original for a spare or the other way around.
For those seriously concerned, needing to, etc, keep the warranty, mod to the level you can and keep it, Mountune seems the best path.
If you go beyond that then accept the responsibility and just live with it
