On my 3rd transmission... need advice

I don't think so. It doesn't make any noise when coasting, only when on the gas. If it was a bad bearing it would make a noise all the time while moving (right?)
I've seen and heard weird things when bearing fail. It is unlikely but so are 3 bad transmission.

Is it possible that you have an alignment issue between the engine and transmission leading to a thrust angle that is prematurely wearing the innards of your transmission?
It is statistically impossible to get three bad units based on Ford's manufacturing requirements... Unless those three were all in a short range of production, but how likely is that?
It's clear that there is something acting on the transmission causing this. If I'm the dealer, I'm checking alignment and clearances of the motor on the input side and the output to the driveline as the culprits.
Keep us posted. This is very interesting.

Thanks for the comment, I certainly agree with you. The case got escalated and there is a field engineer inspecting it Wednesday so hopefully I'll have an update soon.

Almost same here boombots... I just have not taken mine in since my whine is not loud or seem to have gotten worse, but it is noticeable for sure. I purchased my FiST 5 months ago (used 10k miles). That would be my kind of luck and I am hoping to see some kind of PROPER FIX by FORD before going down milk's road and iirc perhaps a few others??

update: field service engineer currently inspecting it. They already issued an order for a new trans.... fingers crossed this one doesn't take 6 weeks to come in like last time...

hey man, the second I drove my car from Orlando to Tampa and got on the highway, high pitched screeching (only under throttle), in 5th and 6th. It subsided in about 3 days of driving approx 100 miles, and never came back. I'm at 5500 miles now and not a single noise.

I figured some break in thing or something, I just put my hands down and said Eff it, its a cheap @$$ car to begin with and its under warranty, Im just gonna drive it and sure enough the noise disappeared and never came back

I was really pissed that happened during the drive, I mean livid, I was totally mad as hell but again, I said whatevs its a cheapo and just let it go ya know?

Time to lemon law it. Get a new one if you are still in love with the FiST. Ford SHOULD be glad to buy it back so they can study it and truly understand what is going on.

I thought it might be part of the break-in too so I waited until ~1k miles to report it each time. No luck.
Isn't 4th lemon law? I'ts either bent our your clutch leg is.
3rd failed attempt is lemon law. Currently at the shop for the 3rd and final attempt.
Time to lemon law it. Get a new one if you are still in love with the FiST. Ford SHOULD be glad to buy it back so they can study it and truly understand what is going on.
We'll see....

Lemon law is a state to state thing. Just FYI. And lemon law isn't a simple "my car is broken and I want a new one" and VOILA. I've seen two separate lemon law cases where it was blatantly obvious, and even with attorneys involved, it took months of back and forth to resolve the issues. Either way, good luck.

My car is at the dealer for the same exact reason. High pitched whine, every gear, only when accelerating. Foot off gas, it stops, take car out of gear, it stops. I was going to let it go but it started bugging me too much. Should hear back soon from the dealer to see if they're going to replace the transmission. They were supposed to drop it from the car today.

Gl dude. Hope you have a better experience than me...

New trans is going in tomorrow. Not sure if they're doing anything different... They've been really concerned with the fluid though. We'll see.

I probably shouldn't have, but I changed my gear box fluid before bringing it in. Thought fresh fluid would calm down the whine. I didn't notice any metal or anything odd in the fluid. I just hope changing it doesn't come back to bite me in the ass

If it's still making noise then it shouldn't matter as long as it's OEM. That'd be my advice for anybody though - be very wary of switching to motul or whatever. That's the first thing they'll check and I could see warranty being easily nullified... Hope it works out for you

dang it. trans not going in today. they were instructed by the field service engineer to tear the new trans apart and clean the inside, and clean/filter new fluid before installing it... thinking Monday or Tuesday now.

Sorry you're going through this, but sure appreciate you keeping us in the loop!
I just can't help but think there is an underlying problem that is manifesting itself as worn transmissions.
Whatever it is, I hope it's solved this time around!

As I posted on another thread, I recently had a Quaife diff installed, which required taking the transmission apart completely, installing the diff, then putting it all back together. It took a couple of days, but having had a look inside, and a transmission expert do the work, all is well. It is a really good trannny.

So something is very wrong to need 3 transmissions, and one would hope that a Ford engineer could figure that out quite quickly. As FGIALC has opined, it's probably not the transmission, itself.

I really am truly sorry for your troubles, and do hope that Ford sorts this out as the car is a gem, and the odd (as in statistically an outlier) serious problem such as yours needs to be resolved quickly by someone who knows what to do which, sadly, is unlikely to be a Ford dealer.

yea man, your on your third transmission coming up. the fourth time (if there is a fourth time) ford is required to buy your car back. depending on what state your in that is. I would suggest giving the dealership written notice of the fourth attempt of fix, after that, ford has to legally purchase your car back. call ford, speak to an executive and specialist in the legal department (not some plain jane customer service rep, someone who can handle this) and tell them you will send them your payoff before this escalates to a legal level. Ford will keep this private and handle your issue in a reasonable and timely manor to prevent this from going public and affecting the brand name, quality and inferiority of your dilemma. If you press this and present it to the right personnel at ford, they will rest assured handle this with a content demeanor.

I hope your issues stop with this 3rd transmission.
