About the AWD dreams. It's well known that our car shares it's platform with the Mazda 2. The Mazda 2 shares it's platform with the cx-3. Guess how many wheels it powers :) So if you hit the lotto, just buy a cx-3 and weld it's ass bits into ur Fiesta. See. Dreams can come true...that is if you don't mind a 6 speed automatic[emoji14]
And I agree that they will prob go 1.5 in the engine bay but what if they keep the current 1.6? How many of us would buy just the (hopefully) new and improved turbo and send it to SS lol

I got a little more info on the racing pedigree of our current engine from an email to Ford's Director of European Racing. He confirmed that our 1.6 ST engine is used in Formula Ford in essentially stock form. They are detuned a little to meet series requirements, and a dry sump oiling system is added.

If I ever hit the lotto, I will just have Mr. Wilson build me a 2 door, Fiesta WRC in a 'semi-street spec', and throw a U.S. VIN plate on it!! [biggrin][driving]

I think the next Fiesta ST will continue with the 1.6 litre, probably with a slight power boost.
I believe this is the engine used in Formula Ford racecars, and I think we're lucky to have it. Its development for that application is probably the reason that it is so (relatively) bulletproof.
They have a new twin-scroll for the 2.0 litre Ecoboost; maybe they'll develop one for our platform.
I doubt it, there has been no talk of any new small displacement ecoboost motors in the 1.8-2.0 range, and highly unlikely that Ford will make a one off motor just for the new Fiesta ST.
Oh I'm not saying I think it will happen. I'm saying I want it to happen. I think this car with a displacement bump to a 1.8 (Same engine, Just bored and stroked) would really open up possibilities with some bigger turbos since it'll have better spool time. There's a huge difference in spool between a 1.6L Miata and a 1.8L Miata for instance. Also Ford is no stranger to bumping up the displacement to increase power (5.0->5.2, 2.0-> 2.3 etc.). Just a pipe dream I think :)

That's easy, 2J intake and relocate battery to the hatch. Plenty of space. Prolly don't even need the room from the intake. The battery takes up a lot of room.

The new Mazda2 and CX3 doesn't share plataform with the fiesta, they both use the "Skyactiv" plaform. :/

That's what Mazda calls their lighter weight version. The Fiesta and the Mazda 2 were developed back when FoMoCo and Mazda were in bed together. The CX3 chassis is an evolution of that design but essentially the same.

The thing is that AFAIK the Mazda2 uses a "smaller" version of the Mazda 3 and CX-5 Platform..... but you could be right.

The Mazda 3 is on the C1 platform, shared with the Focus and some Volvos. The Fiesta, cx3 and 2 are built on the global B3 platform. Dead giveaway is the twist beam rear, used on the 2 and Fiesta, being different from the fully independent rear of all C1 cars.

Everywhere I've read the mazda 2, cx3, and Fiesta are platform mates. In fact, early on many suspension kits listed for mazda 2 were being sold as Fiesta St fitments. Also, I went to check out a cx3 for the wife and parked my FiST next to it for shits and giggles. Wheelbase is damn near identical.

And the CX3 comes in AWD. Who wants to do some experimenting lol

Maybe you can race a bike indoors and win? Didn't Clarkson do a similar stunt

I don't know if it's an optical illusion or not (poor lighting, and hard to freeze that vid), but the rear fenders appear to be flared a good deal more than our current cars are. [dunno]

IF those are the finalized Euro/Brit wheels (and hopefully ours as well?), they FINALLY are using the Ford Racing 'Focus Rally' style wheels that WE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN on our gen cars as standard. [mad]

The BMX and ST in the factory thing is marketing, trying to appeal to/reach the Red Bull, Ken Block, X-Games, Extreme Sports, etc. demographic (or at least that's my take on it).

New Ford Fiesta ST hot hatch set to star at Geneva with new 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo engine

Ford has revealed a new Fiesta ST hot hatch, based on the upcoming seventh generation version of the supermini. The new ST family member will be the firm?s headline act at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

The biggest news is the move to an-all new engine configuration. The 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo used in the current car is out, replaced by a lightweight, aluminium 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo.

The new motor produces 197bhp. That?s 17bhp up on the standard output of the current Fiesta ST, but equal to its ?overboost? figure. Torque swells from 240Nm to 290Nm, and Ford claims that the new Fiesta ST can crack 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds ? two tenths quicker than the current generation model and on par with the ST200. A top speed just above 140mph seems likely.

Naturally, the downsized motor will be cleaner and more efficient than the outgoing four-cylinder. Ford reckons CO2 emissions for the new model will tumble from 138g/km to 114g/km, and with cylinder de-activation technology on-board, fuel-economy should improve too.

Speaking to Auto Express last year, Ford?s head of small cars in Europe, Darren Palmer spoke up the prospects of a three-cylinder ST, calling the new engine ?promising?.

?It?s a great engine ? it sounds brilliant and there?s loads of torque when the turbo comes on boost?.

However, the improvement drive won?t just focus on what?s under the bonnet. According to Palmer, the European development team at the brand?s Lommel testing facility in Belgium has ?obsessed over the car?s steering. They?ve fine-tuned the calibration to make sure it drives exactly how a Fiesta should?. Palmer told us Ford knows it?s got one of the most popular superminis and wants to build on the nameplate?s popularity, so it?s ?going in hard with the new Fiesta?.

The seventh generation Fiesta is still based on Ford?s global B-car platform, but on top of the tweaks received by the standard car to improve grip, plus the new model?s wider track, the ST?s chassis has been further tuned by Ford Performance.

Like on the previous generation car, a torque-vectoring unit can step in to reduce understeer by braking the inside front wheel in corners, and the new Fiesta ST comes with three selectable driving modes ? Normal, Sport and Track ? altering traction control, throttle response, power steering and exhaust valve settings.

From launch the new Fiesta ST will be available in both three-door and five-door bodystyles. In terms of design, it cuts a close look to the standard new Fiesta in ST-line trim, but with a slightly more aggressive front bumper and grille, a painted rear diffuser, and exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels. A new paint colour option, Liquid Blue, also appears.

In the new cabin, Ford promises greater levels of personalisation than before. Interior styling packs will be available, offering alternative trim and finishes on items around the cockpit. In terms of technology, the new Sync 3 infotainment system appears alongside touchscreen displays up to 8-inches in size. In tune with the car?s hot hatch image, Recaro sports seats with chunky side bolsters appear up front, and a flat-bottomed sports steering wheel makes the cut.

Though the car will make its debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, Ford won?t be launching the new Fiesta ST until early 2018. Order books should open at the end of the year though, and we expect a slight increase to around the ?19,000 mark when it goes on sale.

Hmmmm interesting. The exhaust sounds a bit more abarthy. Idk about the engine though. 1.5 seems a bit big for a 3 banger. And prolly not much room to grow on. They should have just carried over the engine with some new mapping.
