It is possible, though highly not recommended. You just need to find the APIM (basically the SYNC brains) out of a nav equipped vehicle. However, there's no telling what kind of issues would arise when it comes time to update and I'm sure there are warranty issues that would come up should something go wrong.
This question has come up before elsewhere on this forum.
Basically the answer is NO.
It is not just the Sync unit that is needed.
You will also need the NAV antenna and a wiring harness.
The biggest obstacle is that it will not work until some reprogramming is done.
So far this has only been done at the dealer but by FoMoCo itself.
Also so far they will only program to an "as built condition".
So if the car did not come with the NAV installed, Ford will NOT turn it on.
I have started using my phone and it works very well, I just tell it where I want to go, fast, simple, no updates, no cost (some data usage but so far not a big enough amount to be of concern)
