Mountune Tune Characteristics or just FiST Characteristics

So, obtained a 91 oct Mountune tuned '16 ST. Whoosh I/C, RMM, etc....so, i'm feeling my way through one of these cars for the first time. I'm trying to understand if what I am feeling are just the characteristics of the tune or the ST in general...or something else. Boost is limited in 1st and that feels normal. But then after shifting to every gear after that, even under minimal throttle (unless I lightly feather it), it feels like it wants to jump as soon as you're into the throttle. So, is that normal or no? Ask me questions if this doesn't make sense. It certainly doesn't feel like it's so much that its damaging anything...just never dealt with small engine'd turbo car with so much low end grunt before.

I’m not familiar with Mountune’s tune, but the throttle response can adjusted to be very aggressive on aftermarket tunes. It’s almost “eager”.

I had a tune from them after purchasing an accessport. It was a tad torquier than the OTS cobb tunes, but not too different overall. These cars are just very punchy in the lower rpms. Makes you feel like you're driving a much faster car than it is lol.

I have the MP215 tune. I suspect your car has a hotter tune than that, with the other mods you describe. Mine definitely has more oomph at lower rpm than it did stock. A tune will get the turbo working harder earlier than the stock tune.

Did u get an accessport with the car? If it was a Mountune brand then it’s likely a MP215. If not it’s a Cobb accessport. If you don’t like the way it feels there are options for u.

Yes, it came with the AP and tune already loaded. Didn't notice/pay attention if it's a Cobb or not. And it doesn't bother me per se, just feels unusual. Just making sure something's not wrong. Definitely like the low end punch out of nowhere. it's fun for sure.

Mountune leaves the first and second gear boost limits in place (or maybe raises them slightly). Every other tuner I know of just puts those limits at whatever their tune's max pressure is.

If its a Mountune AP with the MP215 the cover plate will have the Mountune logo on it. If its a standard open AP then the Mountune tune will be at the abosolute bottom of the list of tunes below the Valet mode. It will most likely have the name of the original purchaser on it. At least thats the way it is with mine.

Cool. Good info. I'll check it after work.

This picture shows the Mountune logo on my AP for my MP215 tune as Dpro said above. This is the only tune on this AP, and it's VIN-locked, it can only be used once for my car as I understand it. It's a good tune, and particularly good for someone like me who just wanted a set it and forget it tune and didn't want to mess with data logging and things like that. It also preserved the Ford warranty for cars up through the '16 model year if installed according to Ford's directions.
When I plug the AP in and scroll through the menu to the tune, this screen displays –

If you have the Mountune you will find it is optimized for 93 Octane but will work for 91. Also what you are describing is not a function of the MP-215 tune. I'm betting you don't have a Mountune MP-215 Tune or you have hardware issues.

Yes, the Cobb accessport I just bought from Mountune with a pre-loaded 93 octane tune behaves the same way. Just barely get on the accelerator and it just goes. You could always download the Cobb tunes from their website and compare. Mine is a '17.

Maybe half and half? There's definitely a Mountune logo on the splash screen or whatever you want to call it. And there are two tunes below the Valet.

That's the regular Cobb AP. It's not locked. You can load any tune you want on it. Looks like you've got a mountune 93 tune of some sort.
If it's running good, I'd leave it alone. The custom tuning's already been done.
Or, you can punch in one of the Cobb tunes just to see what the difference is, then switch back. Since you have an intercooler, I'm guessing the Cobb stage 2 would be OK.

Just to tickle the curiosity kitty. :p

No those are all OTS Cobb Tunes my AP that was unlocked had the same tunes and then below valet mode in smaller print had the Mountune FB3 tune which if you hook up the AP to the internet you will see through the software exactly what Randy did. As there are tune notes.
I am guessing Randy possibly loaded up a bunch of tunes on AP’s before he left so they were stocked for they packages.

I'm talking about the last tune on the last pic. The tunes at the bottom say mountune.
My guess (and it's just a guess) is that the AP was bought from mountune, and given that there are 2 tunes, the one in effect right now is the custom tune you get free within 45 days.

ya I did not see those before, those are wide open Beta tunes that someone never followed up on with datalogs for revisions. Interesting thing is usually Randy would have put the users name on them.

I think the good news is that that it's an unmarried AP. The OP can put any tune they want on it.
That said, mountune knows what they're doing. If the OP likes the tune, no reason to mess with it.
