P144C evap problems

I've seen a few threads about this, but none of them really seemed to answer my question. Probably because I'm new to working on cars so I didn't quite understand. So I bought a 2017 Fiesta ST in the US and the last owner had put a COBB cold air intake on it. As far as I know, that is the only modification done to the car. About a week after I got it, a CEL popped up for P144C. No issues with idling or stalling like I've seen in other threads. The car never stopped driving perfectly fine; the only change is that I think it's running rich since I can smell gas when standing behind it while it's idling. The dealership paid to fix it and they said they replaced the "vapor canister" and "purge solenoid valve". The CEL was gone for a few weeks until it popped up again. Any advice on what to do? Clearly the parts they replaced are just symptoms that will keep happening until I find the issue. From my research, I've learned that apparently this is an issue with 2016+ Fiestas and some people are converting some parts back to a 2015 or earlier model. I also found a $40 hose on Whoosh listed as a fix for P144C. In the reviews for that, some people were saying the CEL came back, and one guy said he wished he bought the COBB evap kit instead. So I went and searched COBB's store and all I found was another $40 hose listed as an "intake adapter". Any idea if just swapping out this hose might help the issue? I also heard that you don't even need this on an updated COBB intake design. Any way for me to find out what year design the intake on my car even is? This issue hasn't seemed to actually do anything yet, but I was wanting to get this fixed before I move onto adding more mods.

Thanks for any help.

What a mess. I wish you the best in getting answers. Buying someone else modified car always makes these type of situation frustrating because you don't know what was done to the car. Maybe buy a stock intake a start there to correct it.

Yep stock intake. I wonder if the previous owner modified the evap hoes for the cobb intake.

I had an adapter for a bit. And while chasing an issue that ended up being a cracked evap canister i backdated to the 2014-15 evap setup under the hood.

Return to a stock air box and stock EVAP harness...install high flow panel filter of your choice. Problem solved! Hell even an ST200 box would be a great addition.

By the way, I fixed it by getting the evap harness for a 2014-2015 Fiesta and the problem never came back. Totally forgot about this thread. Replacing the harness with the pre 2016 one is the only way to truly fix it if you have an aftermarket intake.

By the way, I solved the problem by purchasing an evap harness for a 2014-2015 Fiesta, and the issue has never returned. I am going to share this thread https://www.fiestastforum.com/threads/p144c-floridaloteryresults-evap-problems.24487/ to my kith and kin who want to know about that. I'd completely forgotten about this thread. If you have an aftermarket intake, the only way to fully solve it is to replace the harness with one from before 2016.

Ahhh, we still have friends in the great, white North!! (apologies to Geddy Lee). I believe what all are selling as the cure is just the earlier oem hose assy. It has the intake hose connecter either 1) slightly diff location, 2) a second connector? Woosh and COBB sell the earlier set up, bingo!

It’s still throwing the code with the 14-15 evap harness? Did you clear the code out or disconnect the battery for a while after installing?

ok here's the scenario: My son had the 2016 ST since new. Here's what has been done. Whoosh intercooler. Mishimoto cold air kit. Threw code P144C. Switched to the 2014-15 EVAP lines. Still throwing code P144C. Can anyone help? I have read all the past posts on this subject and just can't figue out what I'm doing wrong. I have attached a pic, anything wrong here? I am baffled why the P144C. Need help guys.

I used an OBD-2 reader and cleared the code. No CEL on. re-read the scan and code still there. I also cleared all DTC with the Cobb access port. Also disconnected the battery for 30 min. Code still there.

yes. Used an OBD-2 scanner to reset. Also reset the DTC's with my Cobb access port. Then unplugged the battery for 30 minutes. Code still there.

That’s really odd then. Maybe a short in the wires?

OEM parts still available? It may be (a giant pain-in-the-ass) good to start all over. Make sure the MAF wires aren't cracked/brittle, secure and clip-locked. The green clip-lock doesn't like the aftermarket metal tube connector either. Also re-check these green clips (hose assy replaced - yes?).

only some OEM parts but missing airbox and tube. Complete new Ford EVAP octopus from 2014-15. I will recheck all the connectors. Could you please take a close look at the pic attached to see if the hook up to the Mishi looks good. I was wondering if it might be that check valve connecting to the Mishi. Does it need that? Also is the right piece on the Mishi capped? on the "T" from the Mishi.

I don’t know what the hell is going on with that setup lol

It appears you have a 2016+ intake and a 2014-2015 evap harness on there. The 2016+ evap harness might have just been bad - the purge valves fail highly frequently.

it is a 2016 Mishi and a 2015 evap. will that not work? I have checked everything 3 times. I can't find anything wrong unless the 2015 lines will not work with the 2016 Mishi intake. When I threw the code with the 2016 lines do you think it could have just been a bad purge valve?
